Yay, I brought a Mondeo...

Almost, pick it up on saturday, providing I like the test drive saturday morning, otherwise I get my deposit back. Just a couple of questions its a 1998 1.8, with 88k on the clock. What should I check for in the service history and panic about if its not been done? I take it the timing belt should ahve been replaced, so I'll definetly check for that, is there anything else important? Its going to come with a 12 month MOT.

cambelt will depend on which engine it is, if it's the silver top it should have been done at 70k miles. The black top engine doesn't need to be changed until 100k miles.

Check for dampness in the boot; I've heard of a few Mondies of that period having trouble with leaky seals at the rear... Mine has a small lake.

Do you how long I spent rereading my post to figure out what you were taking the mick out of? God dyslexia socks.

Its a silver top engine, so I'll make sure its been done. I'll remember to look for ducks swimming around in the boot. I thinkits got air-con as standard, so I'd better remember to check that aswell.

Is the water pump still an issue with these (plastic impellor issue)?

thats only the V6 the 4 pots dont have that problem

Think thats more on the ST24? Check the aircon on all settings, if it only works on 4 its really easy to fix but could get some pennies off. Can't think of much else specificly for mondeo.

Nope all V6's and the ST24 has exactly the same engine and performance as any of the other V6's excluding the St200

Mondy's are known for their air con condensors rotting and getting holes, so that the gas leaks out. Can be around £250 - £350 to get fixed if so. My mondy air con don't work, but can't be bothered and should not be a major issue as to why a car should not be bought if it goes OK.

Also see how many keys it has as it can be expensive if it only got one to get sorted if something goes wrong, or £75 - £110 to get a second key coded and cut to the car.
