After months, nay years of wanting another bike, finally gave in to temptation and purchased myself a small project http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4612527562
From the description it sounds as if its fit for the bin, but the seller is THE most genuine I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with, and if anything he undersold the bike totally.
I had heard the engine spinning over using a car battery and jump leads, and thought that it wouldnt be that hard to get it going.....its a bike right!!
Anyway - 3 looms later and 2 CDI boxes I finally get it to turn under its own steam.....then find out the clocks that came with the bike are for......a different model (the FZR400 has way too many variants mine being a 1WG which has 4 different models)
Luckily managed to source the correct set and hey presto, the wiring loom is complete.......and now the ******* thing has NO electrics, the air in the garage turned a nice shade of blue as I set too. following the wiring through..... Until this afternoon when after taking the fuel tank off again (for what feels like the 100th time)........I notice the main earth doesnt look so hot......
Finally.......with a bit of carb cleaner, she fires.....but wont take ANY throttle - and then cuts out and wont start again.........for me to finally realise I havent turned the fuel tap back on....well duh :D
Holy crap - after letting her warm up, does she rev or what - only took the revs round to 7k but the redline is past 14,000.....which should be 'interesting'
Now to strip her down, and rebuild as a StreetFighter.....progress pics on here and the website over the next few weeks :D going for an R6 back end, tidying up the wiring and sorting headllights first

Not a bike rider, but sounds like an interesting project, would like to keep an eye on it :D

Cheers, hoping its cheaper than the dragster :D

Excellent bargain, dirt cheap to run - loads of fun and look the dogs when given the street fighter treatment.

Ive seen a couple recently (since I started buying StreetFighters again) that have got me going......its been suggested these are the 4stroke equivilent of the RD's - so should be a hoot for the back roads to work

i think your best going the street fighter look fairing panels for 400's are like hens teeth as there is so many variants.

This, (as I found to my cost with the clocks and loom,) is a 1WG 3EN1 - have to love Yamaha for making things interesting.

Did a bit more work today around the rear brakes, ended up taking them off to overhaul the calipers.....but just couldnt resist not taking it up and down the garages.... a) it sounds good b) it has zero turning circle and c) it hurts like hell when you hit the front brakes and your whole body slids down the seat into the tank  it looks like crap though as its running sans airbox, any sort of fairing and tank cover!!
