Yes, I Made a Mistake

Turns out putting a Pentium D 830 in a Silverstone TJ08 is a bad idea, this thing manages to heat up the entire back of the case to a crazy temperature, and the temperature controlled Intel cooler spins too fast for my ears to enjoy. Now, I want a fairly compact case which is why I bought the TJ08 in the first place. The question is, would replacing it with a PC-V600B leave me with the same problems? The Antec NSK4400 isn't much larger than the TJ08 but seems to have a much better layout so it wouldn't be so oven-like inside, but it's a bit . . plain.

The V600 is, as far as I'm concerned, a very expensive case, and I want to know that it will be an improvement over my Silverstone. I've seen the thread here where someone had about 16 billion hard drives in, and I only have one, so I'm hoping that means I'll have more luck.

Yes I bought a Pentium D, it's great for what I use it for but it runs hot. No, changing the CPU is not an option.

Thanks

What about replacing the two 12cm fans with higher CFM ones? Or replacing PSU with a faster PSU fan? I have a Silverstone TJ08 with a 3700+, 25-30 cpu idle, 35 mobo, 41 cpu load, 44 mobo load.

The v600 would be better, as WJA96 is trying to find the limit of the case, and he must be close now!

That or the Lian Li G50, which is very similar to the v600 would be your best option, not used either of the cases yet mind.

There are not many small cases up to huge heat, the Lanboy is one of the best.

The G50 may be a good choice, but the v600 from what WJA96 has put seems to be able to cope with quite a lot.

V600 is a great case in my opinion, i have 3 hdd's and both stock lian-li fans at 7v which are almost silent, and have no issues at all. I posted my temps in the other thread you're talking about. Only thing to watch is that the intel cooler is not too tall otherwise the way the PSU is mounted will mean you'll have trouble. Stock AMD cooler has a crapload of room to spare so as long as it's not too much taller you should be fine. I think the problems the other guy were having are more related to the sheer number of cables that were in the middle of the case. With fewer cables you can make things much tidier, and i also have 2x 5.25" bays free which are used to stash away any unused connectors and slack in the wires.

I would definately recommend it, but at the end of the day everyone likes different cases, i can say you won't have any heat problems with a moderate number of hdd's etc.. though. Just for comparison, i have owned a chieftec dragon and a pc68, and this case is much better than either of those as far as airflow goes.

That's a 3700+ though. This is two 3GHz Prescott cores.

You're not using an Abit LG-81 are you? In which case - don't change the case - change the motherboard! The PWM heatsink on that is way too small - especially if overclocked. I would also recommend you to try an AC Freezer 7 Pro cooler as that case has enough height to let you use it.

If it is an Abit LG-81 then contact me (e-mail in trust) and I can talk you through what I did to mine to cool it down.

I also have very good experience of the Abit LG-81 with an overclocked Smithfield 805 in a Silverstone Sugo Evo case (piccies in the SFF forum).

Nah it's an Asus P5LD2-VM. The heat isn't really an issue as in it is 100% stable, but I'd like to get it down if possible.

How much of a problem is this ? in all seriousness?
i mean, the stock intel HSF's SUCK... ive got one on now while im buildign my WC system, so id imagine that replacing that will help remove heat TO the new HSF instead of spreading to the case.
sayiong that ( spec in sig) im touchign the back of my mobo plate now, and its only just 'warm ish' and thats at 59C

get an arctic freezer 7 pro to help take the ehat in the oppostie direction fo the case

I guess I'm just missing having a Lian-Li, had a PC-60 about a year ago which was damn nice to work with.

Gonna order the V600B methinks.

Case temps of 50 degrees is too hot for me, with a rear panel that is painful to hold your hand to.

Probably gonna eBay the TJ08.

tbh sounds like a hardware problem, and from the other thread I cannot see the LL 600 cooling better than the TJ08, I thought the SS and Qpack was cramped. Poor design IMO, trying to make it shorter case..should have stuck PSU at the top or bottom instead. CPU at the bottom won't help either, instead of the heat going straight out the exhaust/through the PSU fan it rises up to motherboard/videocard.

I've seen that thread, that's what got me talking about it in here.

I may just get the Antec and call it a day, but I miss my Lian-Li :(

Ah screw it, all those holes must count for something. Ordered the V600.
