Apologies for putting up another thread on this subject but it's been a while since I upgraded and I'm not fully up to speed on what's out there right now. :o

This is what's on the shopping list so far:
  • OCZ StealthXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply
  • Asus P5K Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
  • GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
  • Leadtek GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
My questions are, is this suitable kit to put together? There's a bit on the graphics card description that says it requires PCI-E x 16; is that the right motherboard to go with it?

I'm not too concerned about overclocking for big speeds, more about having a stable system that will let me play games on a widescreen monitor at good resolutions (1680x1050) and is upgradeable, which is why I wanted a m/board with the P35 chipset. My budget roughly covers the items listed above but I could vary by about £50 for the right kit.

Thanks in advance!

Looks good to me. Maybe think about changing the memory to the Crucial stuff:

It will hit 800MHZ 3-3-3-12 really easily and will even go to 1000MHZ 4-4-4-12 if you wanted to.

Also have a look at the Corsair PSU:

You wont get a much better PSU than that one above so seriously think about changing it. It will provide plenty of power so no need to worry about that either. :D

You should have a very nice setup their.

Aye, thanks Dyson. What threw me was this bit at the bottom of the graphics card description:

Note: These cards require PCI-E x16 slots, they will not function in a x8 slot so for SLi you need dual x16 mainboard. Finally 500W minimum for PSU and 600W+ is recommended.
It was the 'dual x16 mainboard' bit that confused me; Crossfire is the ATI set up that uses two video cards, isn't it? I was concerned that this was something similar that required a specific slot type.

So is the PSU ok? Would I be better off getting something like the Corsair 620W I've seen mentioned elsewhere for a touch more future-proofing?

EDIT: Thanks stickroad! I should type my replies faster so they make more sense!

If you're going for just the one 8800, then on 16x PCI-E slot is fine.

I went for the 620W Corsair just to be on the safe side.

I can understand that but the 520 will be more than enough for the GTS. Plenty of power Plenty of power. :D
