My current system is:

Athlon 1700+
Epox 8rda+
768mb pc2100 @ 166mhz
Radeon 9500NP 128mb

I'm looking to move up in the world and go towards a 64x system, i've come up with this:

AMD 64 AM2 3000+ - £60
MSI K9N Neo-F - £60
Patriot 1gb PC5300 - £65
X800GTO - friend is selling to me for £60

Now i'm gonna need a new psu and i havent got a clue what to get, i like the idea of the modular ones so something like that would go down well.

But how would this system perform? I mean my old system ran Quake 4 a @ 800x600 reasonably well but it slowed in certain parts, would this upgrade significantly increase my system power?

Any other suggestions? I dont want to spend much more than 250/300 on the upgrades.

Apparently the Tagens are good modular PSU's.

The pc should perform really well, but the graphics card might be the only drawback.. but it'll still run games with eye candy etc :)

is it much of an upgrade from the 9500NP?

Yes definatly, i went from a 9800pro to an X800XT-PE and was amazed at the performance increase.. And the jump your going to take is even bigger

Thats good news.

Another thing i was wondering about, the Nforce 5 chipset differences, what does the 590/570 have that the 550 doesn't, onboard graphics?
