so basically, i started experiencing random FPS drops during CS:GO.. didnt stop, tried a lot of things, in the end i just reinstalled windows. still didn't fix it, checked out my CPU temperature and it was at a number higher than usual. checked out my PC, one of the fans doesnt work, so i took it out, tried to clean it a little bit, next thing you know, none of the fans work.

the GPU i have is a msi nvidia geforce 560ti, what are my options now? can i get replacement fans? or do I have to go for an alternative method of cooling?

cheers in advance

alex

Warranty replacement if you can, or if not, pay for an aftermarket cooler like a Prolimatech MK26 (Raijintek have a cheaper one but can't remember the name).

thanks for the response, afraid the warranty ran out about 2 years ago. how would i go about adding the cooler to the GPU? just take off the 2 fans atm and connect it all up? i'm not too confident with all this.

There are screws on the PCB of your graphics card, you undo those and any other screws holding it in then simple remove it and screw the new cooler in. All in all it's a pretty simple task.

Option 2, (Cheaper, uglier).

Take off the fan shroud, jerryrig a static pressure fan or two with zip-ties around the card or something weird like that, blowing directly into the heatsink.

I haven't tried this mod myself but I've seen some pretty crazy stuff working out of the box :p

Can verify this works, did it with my old HD 4850.

Those crummy 60mm centrifugal fans have nothing on a 2000RPM 8cm fan :p

Pretty much this. It's not really worth spending £50-90 on a new cooler for such an old card.

Done this with my 560ti, used two PWM 92mm fans connected to the motherboard, you can also get a gpu to x2 pwm splitter cable aswell.
