Today I rang BT ( brave ) and EVENTUALLY got through to one of there several hundred departments which seem never to be able to do what you want them to... Annyway.

Moving onwards, I asked about being capped at peak times and he said that 'BT cannot control speeds' to which I said 'It says in your terms and conditions that I may be getting capped' in the end, i gave up because he simply wouldn't admit that they cap me.

To which I moved onto the issue of my profile on my net connection which according to their official tester is 6500kbps. To which I was told my internet connection is 4.5mb speed and 76kb/s upload.

I asked several times if they could reset everything on my ip profile so I could resync and it would all resync automatically which he told me it did to which he said there is no issue on your line so the other department won't do this.

Please help me,, how the hell do I deal with BT when they refuse to accept there is a problem.

I completely understand you're frustration mate. I phoned them up yesterday (for hopefully the last time) and got my MAC code - I'm off elsewhere. I am so sick of dealing with BT, they are liers.

If you look on the BT support newsgroup, there are literally hundreds of people complaining there and on thinkbroadband, etc.
There was even a BT employee complaining about it and he actually gets his broadband from BT for FREE! but he is migrating - that pretty much sums it up.

BT are telling everyone different things. I will quote a few comments from other users on the BT support group.

OPTION 3 UNLIMITED

Rang BT's fair usage policy group who confirmed I am currently being capped during the peak times.

The reason being:-
January 2007 - used 38GB
February 2007 - used 31GB
March 2007 - used 33GB
April 2007 - used 28GB
May 2007 - used 77GB
June (up to 14th) 17 GB

So in a nutshell I am being capped for using so much in May; she could not tell me when the capping would be lifted but suggested it would probably be 1st July assuming I carried on in June as I am at the moment.

I phoned 0800 7076044 explained I was a BTTB option 3 customer and
thought my http was being capped because I had exceeded "a rumour" of a
hidden usage limit, he was surprised I was calling and said that there are
no usage limits on option 3, the only time BT would contact a user would be
following a copyright infringement notice, he went on to say that since the
introduction of "unlimited" they'd had to introduce traffic management
during peak as customers had increased usage but didn't know specifics
(protocols).

At no time were the 4 bands you were informed of mentioned, he checked my
usage since Jan 07>May 07 and I averaged 30gb a month over 5 months, May 07
the largest was 89.48gb and he saw no problem with this and had seen much
higher.

There doesn't seem to be much consistency with what were being told.

Being aware of the comments here about limited 'unlimited' I contacted Bt
support before signing up. I gave a mad scenario to see what the response
would be. I wanted to know if there would be a problem with a usage of 250
gig a month, and the response was, no problem ! Option 3 is an unlimited
service and that level of usage is not against there condition.

I did the same and quoted 250 GB, to which they said there would be no
problem with that, with me not being a trusting soul I recorded the
conversation !!!!!!

As usual the bt staff on the phones are full of poop , as ANYONE yet found
out what the cap is is it 40? , 50? , 250?!

I would ask for your MAC code and leave if BT are not giving you what you wnat. I had this with TalkTalk and after a bit of wrangling they let me leave for free part way through my contract. Just be carefull you don't end up going somewhere worse if you do leave.

I was at the time from TalkTalk getting 150ms + gaming pings, constant web page time outs and appalling download speeds. The told me it was my hardware / PC that was at fault and if I cleared my cookies down that would sort the problem !!!!!!!!! My PC and hardware worked fine on the ISP before TalkTalk and still work fine on my current ISP.

I may just take this to the ISPA, BT are lying to me, refusing to sort an issue with my line, refusing to even consider looking at resolving the issue, capping me on very low usage ( less than 30gb a month ), refusing to admit that they are capping me.

If the I win the case I will be taking my mac code and off and away. I still have 6 months left on my contract after they managed to cockup my service forcing me to resubscribe.

Nice info Zildjian and thanks for understanding :)

I get good service

Maybe you guys have legitimate complaints. However, I have had great service from BT and can't fault them, much better than that bunch of NTL muppets.

I finished my years contract with BT broadband and then phoned them up asking what could they do for me now I was free to go elsewhere. I have been upgraded to option 4 unlimited downloads (well 50Gig per month which is almost inifnite unless you are running a video on demand service from home) and had £7 per month knocked off, so I have 8 Meg broadband unlimited downloads for 17.99 per month. Now that ain't bad.

I had a line fault where my speed kept fluctuating and they sorted it within 15 hours.

Just the other side of the story.
