Hiya, looking at specing a gaming machine up for my old man. He's got a £500 budget maximum and will mainly use it for gaming and a bit of database development. He will get an SSD, but not until later down the line so HDD isn't needed as we have a few SATA laying around. Also, he doesn't care about looks of the case as it'll be hidden... and noise isn't a HUGE issue although clearly being in a wind tunnel is not what he wants.

So, needs PSU, Mobo, CPU, Cooler, RAM, GPU and cheapy case. Everything else is sorted.

Will probably OC it too. :)
 
then whatever build you go with you want good air flow, checkout stulips post on the phenom II build, exact same purpose as your father is going to use his for. it will still be in the new posts section titled something along the same line as what you have titled yours

You can save a bit of money on the memory by picking up one of the OCZ kits, which OcUK have just announced.
 
Yeah with all the crazy deals around there will be a lot of money saved. Also stu, in op it says he will need PSU :) forgot to mention though that he will go for a 650+ watt as he's an old school kinda guy and likes to have the power there. Ive told him he doesnt need it and he knows but still wants it even on the budget. -.-

What are the 2400's like for OCing then? Airflow/clocking we can deal with.

Also, im a loyal forum member so most items will be free shipping i hope.
 
anything upto 3.9ghz is possible, it has a locked multiplier and the turbo boost will do some for you.

but even at stock speeds its faster than AMD's fastest chip.

H67 mother board? is that right?
i thought h67 meant you can use the 2400 / 2500 / 2600's in built GPU.
