Hi All
This is my first post so go gently please!
I have decided to try to build my own PC, learn about the innards, overclocking etc...having been around them since ZX80/Altair days however I have never build one from scratch as it were.So after much deliberation etc I have chosen a spec etc.
However I thought before constructing my beast that I would put together a "cheap" PC from scratch first. This was in order to learn about the "in and outs" of CPU/Mobo connections, jumpers, PSUs etc.
A simple task I thought but it is proving far from it.
I have (bearing in mind this is just to learn about how to etc...) the following:
Antec TPQ-1000 (this actually will go in the beast but it was on offer)
mobo bundle = GEFORCE 6100PM-M2 (ECS elitegroup) with a AMD Sempron LE-1250 2.2GHz Socket AM2 Processor plus cooler – a cheapy to learn about settings etc...
NVIDIA Geforce6100/nForce430 integrated chipset,
10/100 LAN
USB 2.0
6 Channel High Definition Audio, NVRAID, PCI EXPRCESS x1
BIOS is AMIBIOS American Megatrends
With this I have a IDE DVD writer with jumper now set to cable only
SATA HD Seagate (both working and tested on another PC)
So here's the rub
Firstly the DVD is “detected” but the tray will not respond (green light goes on etc) as said the DVD writer is OK (have plugged it into my work computer and tray releases ok) but it is as though not enough power is getting to it. So swapped it out with another SATA HDD – again zippo! Even reconfigured with an IDE HDD as Master/Slave - I had to disable Quick POST as no IDE devices were seen at all until I did that.
My boot order is DVD/HDD/Floppy but have tried most combinations etc
In essence the BIOS is seeing nothing really except the DVD writer which doesn’t want to work anyway!
So can you guys point me in the right direction? I have to say I didn’t think I would have so many issues but I have tried everything – searched the net, trawled though the boards constantly retrying things as suggested when others seem to have similar issues like resetting the CMOS, jumpers etc but still the problem persists.
Frankly don’t know what to do. I could call someone in but then that rather defeats the object of the exercise in my opinion.
Thanks for any help
Nick
