I'm considering going to New York for a week around about November time. What's the cheapest time to go, end of October, beginning of November, end of November, etc?

I`m going in October and its expensive as Oct is meant to be a nice temperature etc.

BA has deals atm (till end sept I think) and so has Delta and Continental from Gatwick

I'm going end of October.

The closer to xmas the more expensive it can get as many people take trips to NY to do their shopping.

Flights are reasonable (got them for £250 off the virgin website :) )

Accommodation is the killer. Midtown Manhattan is around $300 for a half decent hotel.

yep, we stay at Affinia Manhattan, highly regarded on Trip Advisor, £200 a night

our flights were/are £300 from Glasgow-Heathrow-JFK

They are pleny of cheap and cheerful motel's which are clean right near times square. You just need to do a lot of looking for the bargains

Can you give me some names?

Is it much dearer to fly direct from Glasgow or Edinburgh than from London?

Edit: Are there even any direct flights from Scotland?

I stayed in the Milford Plaza just off times square, was nice enough, nothing special but if you are just looking for somewhere to rest your head it's fine.

Was about 4 years since I last went , bu tif all you want is a roof over your head no frills clean and tidy then. I'm sure it won't take long to find somewhere

Continental have some really fantastic deals on right now (as little as £160 LHR-EWR  ), so check them out.

As far as hotels are concerned, the Cosmopolitan is great if you don't mind being slightly further downtown (TriBeCa). It's right next to a decent subway stop though.

Continental fly direct from Glasgow and I *think* edinburgh

its typically more expensive to fly direct from Scotland, though the prices are VERY much dynamic so if you see a good fare buy it.

We booked (3 seats) and then our friends booked immediately after us (2 seats) and the flights went up £50 per seat....lol.......
