I have had the Q6600 for a few weeks now and had it from stock 2.4 GHz to 3.4 GHz on air (Arctic Pro 7). Its currently at 3.00 GHz and temperatures as below (idle):

First question is, what monitoring software to belive / Trust the most ??

I would assume TAT as it is Intel's own (and Core temp is pretty similar) Speedfan I dont have much experience with and wouldnt really believe the Asus Probe temps TBH - your thoughts would be much appreciated.

And secondly, what are the normal / safe operating idle temps for a Q6600 ?

Again any advice would be much appreciated

Cheers

TB

I think those temps are high, even for a B3.

It seems most people lay there trust in Core Temps. I'm running the TT Big Typhoon on the Q6600 G0, 3.2 Ghz (355 x 9) and 1.368v core my temps currently read 38, 40, 35, 37'C.

Using a Noctua (can't remember exact name) air cooler, at 3.4ghz and CoreTemp is showing 34, 31, 34, 35, which rises to 50 on Prime95 Blend test.

I'd trust both TAT and CoreTemp as they seem to show very similar temperatures for me.

Thanks guys - Core Temp or TAT it is then. I have taken it back to 3.2 and dropped the CPU voltage to 1.3250 and the temps have dropped to high 30s to mid 40s idling :)

I'm having problems running Core Temp and TAT on Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.:(

Anyone else have any problems?
You need to disable the driver signing to get CoreTemp to run on x64 Vista. It can be done via the Safe Mode menu during boot.

Yeah I had the same, you need to hit F8 during boot up and select the "Disable driver signing blah blah blah option" that appears... TAT doesn't run at all, I just use Prime 95 instead...

I am running the Asus Blitz, Vista 64bit and use speedfan at the moment. The CPU value is the same as what the Asus Probe is giving me. I Could not get TAT or Coretemp to work at all.

Speedfan assumes 85C for the Tjunction value, where Coretemp uses 100C. Just add 15C to the speedfan settings and it will read the same as Coretemp. Speedfan and Everest work in Vista 64, Coretemp won't work with driver signing. One of the recent updates stops users disabling driver signing.

It may have disabled the 'Run...' command, but it can still be done from the Safe Mode menu.
