After spending a lifetime in review sites and online shops, I throw myself at the mercy of the forum.
I am looking for a high end laptop (budget not really an issue) which supports internal 2 hard drives ( I plan to install a SSD for the OS). I want a good screen, at least 15" but prefer 16-17", will happily take an i7 processor and - as silly as it may sound - I am aching for a backlit keyboard. Now, HP can give me the 2 disc support but no backlit kbd, Dell have a nice machine in the XPS 16 but only one drive and the Dell 6400 seems to fit the bill, but its weight along with the power supply is around 60 kilos. If you know of a machine that suits my spec, be kind and share. thanx.

Although I'm probably going to kill myself for suggesting it the Dell XPS M1730 (even the last generation) meets everything you've listed there, the only thing is that it's a Dell, and the power supply is like an Xbox 360 power brick, though I'd guess that every high end laptop would need an equally beefy PSU

Thanx for the quick reply. Isn't it kind of oldish, with processors dating 2 gen back, 667 memory (4GB tops...)? at almost 5 kilos before power unit, it seems to be the best choice of yesteryear, or even the one before.

Screen: 15.6” 1920x1080
The screen size is quite small considering the res
The Dell XPS 16 does the same at 15.6" - 16", new HP Envy - same res, 16", hp hdx 16" ditto; Looks like everybody that's anybody is going for this size/res combo these days.

I thought the new generation were also called the M1730s, the ones that don't come in red anymore?

Anyway, I do know that it's the closest thing to what you've asked for
