HI OCUKers, long time lurker here.

Currently running a system from the sig : i5-3330 + CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO, Asus P8Z68-V LX, 24GB DDR3 1600, EVGA 760 GTX 2GB and some SSD's in a very nice Nanoxia Deep Silence 1 case (Recommended!!)

Pondering a CPU + Mobo upgrade - Skylake 6600(K?) and Asus Z170-P D3 ( I have no need for DDR4's high memory bandwith - or for the related expense :))
Option 2 - Haswell i7-4770S (for power usage) + ASus Z97-P - more cores for everyday work.

Should I pull the trigger now or wait for a bit? what's the prognosis of 6600K prices? Waiting longer devalues the CPU/Mobo combo I'd be selling on ebay I suppose..

I don't really overclock things - Yes I know perhaps this forum is not for me :)) I use PC for heavy multitasking (work from home) and occasional Battlefront/BF4 gaming + constant EVE Online (for 10 years now). Gaming in 1080p only - not upgrading monitors anytime soon.

Thoughts?

Considered a 3770k? No need for a new board and can be overclocked if you want to.
^ This or a 2700K would be my choice, providing you can source a chip. You could then put the money you've saved on CPU/board/RAM into a new GPU.

hmmm, 3770K is certainly a good option, I wonder who stocks those if anyone ? I know they're out there on Ebay, but certainly fetching good prices for what is an older generation CPU..

The Mobo upgrade tempts me because I could add M.2 and USB3 external header to use the usb3 connectors on my new shiny case, not to mention PCI Express 3.0 rather than 2.0 I have now. Just my 2 cents

PCIe 3.0 really makes very little difference, however if you're planning to use USB 3 or M.2 then those are really beneficial features of a new platform IMO.
