Hi.
Just a quick check on parts/advice needed.
I plan to order either sunday or monday:

Q6600 95W @£187.99
Abit IP35 Pro @£123.36
GeIL Value PC6400 2Gb @£58.74
Asus X1650 Silent 256Mb @£49.34
Samsung 500Gb @£66.96
Antec P182 Black @£82.24
Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B @ £29.36
Lite-On External DVDRW @ £35.24
LiteON DH-20A3P @ £17.61
Corsair HX 620W @ £88.11
Akasa PSU Extension Cable @£4.69

Other things to buy/need recomendations on:
- Quiet 120mm fans to max out fan points on P182. (how many do i need? and should i replace the stock ones?)
- GFX HSF for X800XL.
- Logitech MX1000 from elseware @ £40ish.
- Asus EN7300TC for old system @£30.54

Asumsing the GFX HSF costs £30 & the fans £40, the grand total would be:
£883.14
Minus £170 im getting for my old system, i'd be paying £713.64 for a nice multitasking system. :p

Any other bits/bobs you can think of btw?

Thanks in advance all. :).

I take it you aren't much of a games player judging by the video card?

Any particular reason for an external DVDRW and an internal one? Incidentally I'd buy a SATA DVDRW anyway.

The Ninja is apparantly quite hard to fit onto socket 775 motherboards so that might be a point to bear in mind.

Other than that it looks fine overall. :)

Used to be.
Will probaby upgrade the video when the next gen is out.

I like to have 2 optical drives, and having an external one will allow me to keep the P182 out the way and untouched for the most part(and the door on it closed).

How so?

Following on what Semi has said i would also be inclined changing the Memory to the Crucial Ballistix:
I already have another 2Gb of that GeIL sitting on my desk, so i want another (near) identical pair to match. :).

Hmm. Fair enough.

What fan advice does anyone have?
As the only parts im not to sure on are the fans and HSF's for the CPU/GFX.

The Scythe 120mm fans are mentioned a lot on here, but im unsure which one would suit my needs best.
Am i correct in thinking that i'd need 3 to 'max out' the P182, or 5 to replace all the fans in it?

Bump!
Any advice on the fans?
I want to order by tomorrow. I put off ordering because i havnt had the time to yet.

The 1200rpm ones look like the best to go for from what ive managed to gather.
Heres the final list of specs, any comments?

The only things im concerned about/unsure is the PSU, DVDRW & Processor.
The PSU/DVDRW are out of stock, and im not sure wether to wait for the 95W Q6600.

The PSU is good, I'd still pick a SATA DVDRW though, Samsung and NEC do suitable models. I'm afraid I can't help with the fans at all. :)
Why a SATA drive over a IDE one?
Afaik, they dont offer more performance, plus, the IDE ports are there, why not use them? And free up some SATA Channels?
Havnt really payed a lot of attention to optical technology in a while, so i might be missing something?

If im reading the P182 spec sheets right, i cant have a intake in the upper section if i want to use HDDs in the upper sections.
Meaning i'll have to cram my 4 HDDs in the lower section. :(.
Not ideal from a thermal standpoint, and expansion of capacity will be a replace jobbo, but as long as i can keep the temperatures good, then i'll be happy.

Nah, you haven't really missed anything so the reasoning is sound other than the cabling is neater and a SATA drive would be easier to take to a new computer in the future if that was something you are likely to do since IDE probably won't hang around for ever (although floppy drives have done an impressive job). :)

If you can scrape another £10 togeather then i would exhange the gfx card for THIS , a lot better card for a few extra quid.

These are pre-order only... will they be available Sunday/Monday ?
Thats what i want to know. But no-one seems to know.:p
Might just order it all tonight, with the 95w CPU, and just wait for it to come, im in no rush tbh. :).

Tbh, the spec'ed spec would probably stay with me for a few years , with only minor changes like RAM/GFX/HDD.
I think i'll stick with IDE. Might as well use the ports, and it frees up the SATA Channels just for HDDs. :)
Ive decided on the internal DVDRW to be an 'NEC AD7170A' and the external to be that Samsung one: Because it looks more swish than the Lite-On one. :p
Good choices?

Good point, but im not going for performance, and the card i chose is fanless. :)

NEC have always been good for me and I don't know of anything wrong with the Samsungs, either external or internal so picking it on the looks factor seems as worthwhile a reason as any. :)

Just need to dig on some info on when the G0 Q6600s come in stock and im ready to order! :D
Im hoping that the new system will be quieter than my current one.
I plan on having the two scythe fans connected to a fan controller i have, and the bundled Antecs on low.

Nm, i just ordered anyway.
As long as it comes before Aug 25th i'll be happy. :)

Now i just need to work out how to backup all my email and web stuff! Like emails, rules, contacts, favourites, custom toolbars (opera/firefox), ect;
:p.
