this is what i have planned...

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (£182.11)
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA1065) (£111.61)
Gigabyte GA_P35_DQ6 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£129.24)

i was going to add this but i think i should wait for the next round of cards, also i am struggling on choice of a cooler

BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (£358.36)

The motherboard and Ram may be slightly overkill unless the DQ6 has some particular feature you require. PC6400 Ram would save you about £50-60 and still give you more than enough headroom to overclock, probably to the limits of your chip and beyond. With the money saved I'd then buy an aftermarket cooler. :)

Noctua NH U12F, Tuniq Tower, or ThermalRight Ultra would do nicely for a cooler. I think you could probably save a little on the memory, the gfx card's a good choice but I think you might be waiting a couple of months - at least - for prices to drop.

i agree about the wait, but i was thinking about the next generation card to buy rather than the price drop

ah, fair enough. I've heard different things about nvidia's new releases, in November I think, i.e. whether or not they'll be high-end offerings or mid-range? If its mid-range you might find yourself waiting longer.

i thought that mobo because i like gigabyte and it is a high class mobo, what would you choose?

also the memory i just thought it would suit the mobo

I haven't looked into the features of the P35 DQ6 in any great depth but if it is anything like the previous (P965 based) model then the P35 DS3P will have all the most important features but skip out a few things. I don't need most of the high end features but the £40 saved would come in handy.

The memory is also high end but something like the Geil PC6400 C4 is about half the price but would still allow you to clock the CPU to 3.6ghz without running out of specification provided your CPU was up to it. :)
