OK let me just put this out there.

My dad is looking to buy a new car soon to replace his Rover 400 Estate.
He needs a car thats will but fun to drive, able to do some fair mileage (14K a year at least), carry a dog and cheap to run.

He doesnt like Mondeos or BMWs cause Ive suggested that to him already but all I got from him "No way, not at all." So they are out of the question. He would prefer a derv seem as price of fuel is high at the moment.

Hes willing to spend up to £3k but the cheaper the better.

Also no Volvos cause hes had a bad experience with them.

He owns a Rover yet he's turning his nose up at better alternatives?

I know but thats only cause he could only afford that at the time when his over car got wrote off and was falling apart.

Also he wants something thats cheap to run so the MG is out of the question.

Vinny I know but like I stated before had no money to get something better. Hes had good cars before in the past.

He doesnt want another estate. Hes looking at either a hatchback or a large saloon. The dog ca always go on the seat with covers on obviously.

And unless its a reliable MG then it wouldnt be cheap to run cause it will break, like normal.

Why not get the most suitable vehicle for the job? Surely a dog will be happier in an estate. The ZT-T / 75 Estate will be reliable on the most part, especially if you buy the BMW Diesel Engine Variant.

This maybe but he doesnt want an estate anymore. He wants something that will be more flash. I did suggest a 5 series but no and a Mondeo to him but again no. He doesnt want another Volvo and I cant change his mind to make him want an estate.

He doesnt like any Mondeos at all. Thinks they are all rubbish and hates them with a passion, which i dont know why.

VRS is over his limit, £3k doesnt really go far. I have suggested to him a Focus hatch and a Passat. He wasnt to keen but he didnt say no.

I will suggest that but I think he might say "its a Skoda" due to that when he grew up Skodas were just boxes with wheels.

So.

No Estates
No Skodas
No Mondeos
No MGs
No BMWs
No 306s
No Volvos

So is there any more to rule out before we continue?

No just no BMWs, No Mondoes, No Volvos and No estates. 306 GTi would be fine but isnt really cheap to run. Oh and no Rovers or MGs

I think that the Astra might be a bit small but the Vectra would be good.

Challenge then.
Find me a Passat, Octavia, Astra, Vectra, Focus and are cheap to run.
Please.
Also has to be under £3k and post code for people to use BD1 5HD

Well Vinny I would but kinda busy at the moment and you know why. Plus Im not good at searching around really, I only use autotrader.

FIATs are OK but hes had about 5 and so think its time to move on from them.

That looks nice Vinny. I will show him tonight.

Also Ive asked for help cause Ive ran out of ideas and hes not to fussy. Ive told you what he doesnt want so it cant be that hard.
