Good morning fellow forum users! I have a conundrum I need help with!
Currently I live in a small studio flat with my loving Fiancé who I love very much, but for one annoying fault....
Since I set up our NAS she watches a lot of content on her ipad while getting ready or sitting around on the sofa. This is not a problem but she refuses to wear headphones / earphones as it will get in the way while getting ready, and mess up her hair etc afterwards lol.
Me on the other hand, I have no issues wearing headphones as my hair is quickly vanishing. But my current ones are, although perfect for another time, not up to the job of blocking out the noise. If she is watching something even at a moderate volume on the ipad I can clearly hear it over any show I might be watching or dialogue I am listening to on my machine, even turned up loud. this is a problem as I like quiet relaxing music, or dialogue heavy tv shows!

So basically it is time to replace the aging headphones with someone more purpose suitable, but with the massive amount of reviews and choices from pennies to thousands of pounds I am kind of overwhelmed with choice! I will list my requirements below and hopefully some kind person will have first hand experience of something matching my criteria!

Firstly Spec:
I have a mid range fairly powerful pc, but am using onboard sound currently. I would consider a seperate sound card if people think it justified. I have a seperate cheapy sound system (7.1 for £60 many years ago) of which I use 2.1 of the speakers, but could in theory work as an amp as the volume control and headphone socket are on the desk.

Requirements:
Noise Cancelling - This is a big one, as my current headphones do zero of this. Active or Passive I am not too sure which is best as I have never first hand heard either, so arguments either way would be welcome

Microphone - I do chat on skype with people, I also game and communicate, and have made some youtube videos in the past so quality would be nice.

Usage - I play games, I watch films, sometimes at the same time. I play BF so good quality to hear chaps sneaking up is ideal. I have zero interest in bass and usually have it turned right down to zero. Maybe I just havent heard the right kind for me yet! I do like the right kind of music that can really play to the whole range. Pink Floyd and Jean Michelle Jarre, with maybe some Leftfield would be my primary sound testers.

Budget - I would be looking at around £150, this could be for the headphones, or headphones and sound card if people say its necessary. I could possibly stretch to a little more if I could find a venue that does 0% finance :p

Greatly appreciate any suggestions! I look forward to hearing from you all!

love this answer, anyway, what you are describing is a closed back headphones, you probably have open ones, the problem whit this is that whit back you get noise cancelling but the sound isnt that good, while on open back ones you get more sound quality but since the speakers are technically speaking "naked" to the enviorement everyone can hear the sound that the headphone produces, same thing for sounds from the outside getting in, my recommendation is the following, specially helpfull in the long run and you are a hardcore user, buy yourself a nice headphone (whitout mic) for 100 and then buy a ModMic V4, whit this you can strap a quite good mic to any headphone that you are planning to use, making it more modular and not having to spend more money on a headset which usually gives you worse sound quality and bad mic sound compared to things separately, this way on the long run you can step up the game whit a real mic, like the AT 2050 (2020 if you are quite on a budget) and a nice quality headphone

hope this helped

Bit more than your budget but these are excellent headphones. The mix amp makes it real easy too with voice/game dial and volume dial. Multitude of connection options including digital if you have a digital port.

Microphone can be plugged in either left or right side and they have customisable ear cup tags (magnetically attach) including BF4. Mine drown out the wife and kids no problem :D

Dagnabbit! Now you lot start replying lol. I bought on Friday some Sennheiser HD280 pro headphones, and a soundblaster Z gaming soundcard.
Doing the job very nicely I have to say!
