Ok usual deal here. Moving into a student house with 5 people (including me). We wanted to get sky broadband but it turns out we can't get a sky dish installed so we dont qualify for their broadband deals. We already got a bt line which we can't get out of paying for, so that's telewest out.

Sky BB would have worked out £25 on top of our line rental for 16Mbit with unlimited downloads. The local exchange is LLU enabled for bulldog, easynet and orange. We want unlimited downloads and none of those companies seem to do decent deals. They all work out more expensive than sky but we wouldn't even get TV with it of course. So right now I'm looking for a good deal on standard 8Mbit ADSL with unlimited downloads. Any suggestions?

If you've got Telewest in the area then tell them you don't want the phone service.... granted, you'll not get the cheapy deals, but (I think) it's only necessary to take the phone service if you'd like to take advantage of their sweetener deals for new punters. Was much easier when they didn't insist on you taking a phone line.

Me, I've now left Telewest and am using Plus.net, having moved in with my fiance. Pity her house can only get 1 mbit due to distance from the exchange.... that's the price of love though - slow(ish) broadband!

unfortunately cable isnt an option, intial set-up costs of replacing the router etc. are a bit high.

Also i'd like to get a service that doesnt throttle bittorrent speeds, i get WoW patches through this and i download linux distro images(i have a linux server that i like to keep up to date with the latest distro). This is also one of the reasons an unlimited connection is needed, aside from the fact 5 users will be using it.

Demon internet seem to be quite good, does anyone have any eperience with them?

Im in the same situation here, although i dont have any phone line atm. I was with bulldog last year with 6 others on their 8mbit connection. The service itself was flawless, great speeds and totally uncapped. However i find i cant cancel the damned service as they never ring me back to confirm the cancellation which is doing my head in.
