FIRST AND FOR MOST IM NOT A FANBOY!

Right, back in november i purchased a 5850 and had these problems

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18077626

I then sold the card and used a nvidia gts250 and also a gtx285 both worked flawlessly, but unfortunately they were both too loud for my little sugo sg02, anyway today I get a 5770, i installed the 5770 (asus mk2 cooler) and all was good nice and quiet :) ran 3dmark06 and on my setup was only 1200 points less than the 285 so was pretty chuffed, being on the internet all night for a few hours doing this and that and then i fancied a quick bash at TF2 as soon as i did i got this

I really dont know what i could be doing wrong as since the initial problem ive changed

RAM, CPU, MOBO, CASE? and DVDRW

I dont mean to cause a flame war here but im getting seriously peed off, and this was on a fresh install of windows this evening.

I've always had mixed results with ATI cards.

My first was a 9000pro which died on me after a week or two.
My second was a 9600XT which crashed all the time, until we narrowed the problem down (didn't like AGP 8x mode or Auto).

After that I moved to nV, and neither my 7800gt nor my 8800gt have given me a single problem in Windows.

Having said that, I've built machines for other people using ATI cards (9600pro, 3850, 4850) and they've not reported a single problem.

Like yourself, I'm hoping nV pull something out of the bad with Fermi. They need to keep ATI honest :p

can you pass, Intel burn test/Linx, Prime95 for at least 24 hours, Memtest86+ for lets say 24 hours, occt, if any of these fail you have a problem somewhere.

I should say ive had the same problem, but with more time in the bios setting up my overclock and setting different things ive not seen this since then.

its due to an unstable system, weather your memory or cpu, are you running stock.

What a load of rubbish! But yes pc is at stock, how come when I was using a 250GTS or even a 285GTX I didnt have a single problem? Both use more power so Im ruling out a PSU issue

No idea, i got that screen when i was overclocking my 5870 in ATI CCC, i just pressed escape and it disappeared but still passed the test.

I've had that issue with my 5970, although I haven't seen it for a long while now (probably only once since I updated my drivers to the 9.12 hotfix). My overclocks are stable (Orthos + Furmark) and I never came across this issue with previous ATI cards (9800SE, 9800Pro, X800XL, 4870, etc), even when overclocked and unlocked. Therefore I'm inclined to think that this is a driver issue. I'm still very happy with my card but there's plenty of room for improvement when it comes to drivers.

I had this problem with my 5770's changed the PCI Xpress speed in the bios from auto to 101 I also lowered the overclock slighty on my memory. Not had it once for nearly 2 months.

I am hoping the new nVidia cards are good because I have no intention of going back to Ati for awhile. Over the past 8 years have had equal number of Ati and nVidia cards and nVidia have consistantly given me less issues. I am now prepared to pay 40% more for a nVidia card of equal performance just to have the stability.

3 Months ago I sold my 4870 and replaced it with a 275 which was a sideways move regarding performance but it sorted out all the graphical issues I was experiencing.

Really?

I get these errors and I'm 12 hours blend stable. I think it's down to a problem with the drivers and 5770's

I am tempted to think it is some kind of instability between the rest of the system being overclocked and the ATI 5 series cards.

I have had to clock back my overclock to 4.25Ghz atm as anything higher will gurantee the same result as the op yet I am 14 hours prime stable, occt or whatever you want to use at anything between 4.25Ghz and 4.6Ghz yet this issue will keep arising. At 4.25Ghz or less my system will run for weeks without the repeat of OP's problem yet as soon as I whack it back up to 4.5Ghz I wil have that screen within an hour or so.

I can't be bothered to try and pin down whether it's the memory, cpu, mobo overclock which is causing the issue with my 5850. However, I will say that the 5 series are not friendly with overclocks as at 4.6Ghz I never had any problems with my GTX260.

If the PCIE bus is locked - should be no problems. Some boards raise PCIE frequency in line with other busses. Try setting at 101 as mentioned

I can simulate this crash by overclocking my 5870 to 900Mhz core on stock voltage, so I very much doubt it is a system problem.

I would RMA any card that did this at stock.
