OK, so its not going to be a mega purchase like an 'L' lens (just yet anyway) but I've just taken delivery of a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8

:D

Now I just have to wait (impatiently) until I finish work to play with it.

Next Stop

Canon 70-300 USM IS
&
Sigma 30 f/1.4

I know what'll happen soon; I'll be wanting to change the body for and xxD one

I wonder if Bonus + selling 500D kit = 50D body + lenses

Well I'll be interested but I don't think I get the bonus for another two months so unless you can wait?. Is it as good as the reviews say it is; supposed to be nearly as good as L but not with an L price?

Plus I might have the use the bonus to buy the 50D body before I then sell my 500D (otherwise I'd be without a body :o )

Nice one, enjoy it! I'm looking for a replacement kit lens and this could well be it. Been umming and aahhing over a few however, and part of me wants a silly red band round it. :p

Nice lens, how much did it set you back?

I just got a bit of a bargain, Sigma 18-50 f2.8 Macro for £155 new. There's some more available if you're interested.

there is an L version of the 70 - 300 but that costs about 1K I've got the old black 70 - 300 which has now been superceeded by the 70 - 200 f2.8 I can email you a few shots later on though if you wish. I would say that though that it does get a little soft over 200 mm but will get some test shots done for you so you can see for yourself on both crop and full frame :)

£200 for the Tamron.

FAO n1blo - I did actually consider the Canon 17-40L for this reason but I was pursuaded that the Tammy was better value for money at the moment and that working this way up would be make me more appreciative of the L when I did.

bloody hell thats cheap.

i found my old one was so sharp it made peoples eyes bleed :D

shame it doesnt work on a non-crop otherwise id have kept it.

Hope you enjoy the new lens feriso :D

Yeah, they're very similar from what I've seen. Ever so slightly softer wide open at 50mm but better macro and build.

It says refurbished but mine arrived with seal, warranty card etc. all intact.

Thanks for the link Raikiri, just got one myself after deliberating between the Tamron and the Sigma at significantly higher prices. :)

Was edging towards the Tamron before your link.

I think even for £50 I still would have got the Tamron; my heart+head were set on it and I wasn't going to be swayed. If I don't like it then I can always sell it on at no loss.

WOW, Thats a killer deal!! Its a shame they dont have the Nikon fit version otherwise I would have definately picked one up also :(

The Tamron is a great lens, I'd be more than happy with one, wish I had posted this earlier but kept forgetting :)

just bought one of those sigma's. i was tossing up between this and a tamron. with 2 children, the bargain price sealed the deal.
thanks for the tip :D:D
hopefully i will be as happy as you are with yours!

Right, I'm home and it's one - one thing compared with the kit lens is its heavy (comparatively). Its a good weighty feeling though, makes the kit lens feel/look like a toy now :o that and the body now looks a bit puny - damn upgradeyitis :p

A few snaps in my dim study proves it works but I'm not going to post any yet as they'd be a bit boring.

Fortunately I'm off to Newcastle (Tyne) tomorrow for work and I have a free evening so I might so snapping as I'm staying right by the bridge.

Have to say its a cracking purchase already - although the wife doesn't know yet and I'll see how long before (or if) she spots it :D

my sigma just arrived - very happy :D
im looking forward to seeing everyone's pics taken with their new kit lens replacements!
