Ok, my ps3 has died. I turn the console on and the Yellow light comes on for a second and bleeps at me. Then the light flashed red.

Now my problem is, if I remove the hard drive to keep my current profile with the trophy information on, will that void any warranty or give sony an excuse not to fix the machine?

Thanks in advance

Thanks Robert :) So do you think it'll give Sony an excuse not to fix my machine if I send it without the hdd?

afaik as soon as you put your old hdd back in it will format it anyway and lose your data.

im not sure how u could back it up any other way either.

Well that hasn't ruined my plan :D Thanks for informing me btw.

The trophies are stored on your online profile right? So if I get a refurbished PS3 back and hook it up to the internet and sign in, I'll get the trophies I had back from when I was last online with it right? The saved games aren't so much of a problem, I just don't want to lose my platinum trophies :D

I'm not going to take risk's like a using a heat gun :)

Well it turns out guys, my warranty ran out 2 weeks ago. Typical, runs out then it breaks! They want to charge me £131. So I think 'hyperzed' has a good idea, get it done by a third party for a lot less. Get to keep all my saved data then.

Gonna back up all my data once it's up and running again, I'm not risking it again!

Thanks for your input guys.
