Hi there, gone a bit out of tune with the new stuff. I am going to be upgrading soon and am waiting for conroe just like everyone else (partially cuz i can't afford to upgrade atm)! but i see people have been speccing others the new 'yonah' core, but is that actually not for notebooks? what's the difference between this and conroe (apart from the obvious) as i noticed that its also quite expensive, which is better ?

Different architecture... higher clock speeds, more L2 cache... I think, well know that Conroe will kick Yonah's **** :)

EDIT: I have just bought a Conroe Extreme edition

Hey, that's ok, I hope it goes well for you after all this ranting! I still can't believe you can allow yourself to spend that much on one CPU! *gasp, what would the wife say if she found out?!*

Conroe is a beefed up Yonah. Conroe is for desktop PCs, Yonah for notebooks.

Yonah doesn't support 64 bit, has a restricted power usage, has a low 166MHz FSB quad pumped to 667MHz and only has 2MB L2 cache.

Conroe is where Intel unleashed the beast trapped within Yonah. Full 64 bit support, can draw 65W of power, and has a 266MHz FSB quad pumped to 1066MHz and has a large L2 cache of upto 4MB.

For desktop PCs, buy Conroe over Yonah. For notebooks, you'll want Merom which is the "improved" Yonah.

Let us know if you has been hospitalised and at which hospital so that we can send flowers wrapped with Intel Inside :))

What does the Extreme Edition have.. which the E6600 Doesnt..

Is it like an FX Chip, ? with an unlocked multi etc, and hand picked ??

Well tbh most of the FX chips are big waste of money because they never realy clocked as well as the normal AMD 64 chips,

I realy hope that intel have made the Extreme Edition chips very " Awesome " :)
