Yosemite Backup

So I just installed yosemite clean and the installer completely ruined my partitions. The only data I have left is whats on my phone which wasn't connected at the time. How can I get it off without my old iTunes library?

Surprised that it ruined your partitions... Time machine backups are so easy theres no excuse not to have one really

I made a grave mistake. I had a partition I couldn't resize but it had empty space next to it.

I made a TM backup, partitioned the external drive and made it a bootable install, completely ignoring the fact that it would indeed format and expand itself upon install.

I've got a nice little app called iMazing (formerly DiskAid, apparently) that is awesome. I can see all my photos, music in a way that's perhaps better than iTunes. It's done me a favour as now my mbp is nicely organised too.
