You can have any colour...

I was just wondering, do computers come in any other colour than black nowadays? I'm not particularily in the market, but I just had a look at my desktop. Black keyboard, black mouse, black monitor and black case. The only thing which breaks the pattern are my speakers, the Aegos which are white, but with a lot of black.

I had a quick browse of the OCUK cases and other peripharels and I can barely find anything that isn't black. Out of the 163 products in OCUKs Cases section I count 9 white and about 5 coloured.

Is this a bit like when PCs used to be entirely biege, and a black or white PC looked incredibly new and awesome? Frankly I'm slightly bored of all this black, I want something new. White maybe, Macs look pretty cool.

Has anyone gone out their way recently to get a PC thats a colour other than black. I'd love to see pics. Or is everyone still just happy with black?

16 years ago when I used to go to Toys R Us, there were mainly white computers and it was rare to see black computer at that time, though it seemed more impressive compared to white.

16 years later almost all the new computer cases coming out are black. I suppose black probably is naturally suited colour for electronics and it is just not for pcs but also for other gadgets like video camcorders, home tvs, etc.

Black is the new beige as far as cases are concerned. Brands like Fractal Design, NZXT and Lian Li have a few models in various other colour schemes, but... yeah, I see where you're coming from.

The other factor is that PC cases/hardware attract lots of dust. So white cases will get dirty very quickly and is something not very aesthetically appealing.

if you know of someone who can provide specific services, you can get any case powder coated in pretty much any color, or as Ginger-menace said, get some newspaper, and spray it your self :)

I've got a lian li PC-7. Lovely case that came in both silver and black when I bought it. Now similar models are only available in black. Because It's aluminium I don't think it will look that great if just spray painted.

I'll be honest, the main reason this has been on my mind is that I decided to use the Macs while writing my essay in my University library yesterday. The Keyboard was annoying, the mouse was useless and I didn't really understand the OS, but the entire thing looked very nice, lol.

Anybody out there have a case that isn't black out of interest?

Its like consumer electronics. TV used to always be black, then everything went to silver, silver stands, silver DVD players etc. Now everythings backed to black!

I remember when I first go into computers, so probably about 10 years ago being very disappointed that I could find a silver optical drive to match my silver case. Back then if you built a custom machine, silver was the colour for you!

I'm sick of seeing black everything as well, hence why I bought a Fractal Design Define R3 in white. I don't regret it one bit, because it looks the bee's knees :D

+ 1 on Macs. I can't stand the things. My friend has one, and the keyboard is only suitable for somebody with the smallest hands in the world, the mouse is the most horrible, least ergonomic thing I have ever used and the OS just annoys me. I can't wait to get back home to my Windows 7 PC with a proper keyboard and mouse. I miss my SteelSeries Ikari and 7G very much at the minute. At least she has a Windows laptop, so I'm not completely stuck with Apple's infernal machine :D

Don't hit me but... I'm writing this from a MBP and it's great :D

I haven't tried the Mac Laptop range though I hear they're brilliant, especially the trackpad. It's just the particular mac keyboard and mouse I was using was irritating as hell. I think they were going for design and ergonomic ability over actual usefulness.

What? How old are you? :D
I remember when TV's were brown or wood finish

I'm not usually a violent person, but OC says I'm a thug, so now I feel compelled to... :D

I can't say much for the MacBook Pro, but I just couldn't get on with this thing. I don't know if we're both talking about the same mouse, but it's very flat. The one thing I did like was the touch scrolling in four directions :D

Another thing I'll give Apple is the quality of the screen. It's very nice.

Please don't laugh, but I couldn't even work out how to make the browser window full screen  I tried the + button, and that did almost nothing, so I tried double clicking, and that did nothing, so I tried dragging it manually and I couldn't get it to do that either.

I guess if I had a guide to show me how to do simple things like this, I may have liked it more, but left to my own devices it just frustrated me :D

You don't need to maximise the browser window. If Apple had intended you to do that, they would have done it for you.

Fair point...

... I guess if you're stupid enough to pay the money Apple are asking for these things, you're nowhere near capable of deciding how big you want your browser window :D

I'm so glad Apple is there for us mere mortals in our time of need... :D
