So...

Everyone who buys a PC from the shops, whether it be an HP, Dell, Compaq, Packard Bell or whatever. Right now they all come with a Windows 7 COA sticker on the side panel.

This of course means you have "rented" a copy of Windows 7 for use on that specific machine only for the rest of it's or your life!

So.. a while down the line. The hard goes boom (I know they don't really) Because HP and all the other manufactuers chose to juse use a recovery partition (Which is usually half the capacity of the hard drive!!) instead of supplying the proper installation media.

So... your out of warranty, out of luck and out of hard drives. You buy a new hard drive... screw it in. You own a license for the machine... Where do you get the media? What do you do? All the "Windows Discs" you see online are either £80 (£79 of this is for a license... which you already own!!!) £1 is for the disc, the part you need.

So... what do you do? Buy a genuine copy from OcUK and pay for another license? Do Microsoft ship just the installation media without a license... erm... nope!

Seems to me there's a major flaw here. What's everyones opinions.

Just download an ISO of the relevant Windows disc. You buy the license, so it doesn't really matter where you get the Windows disc from anyway.

Most of them come with a program to burn recovery discs that I've seen. You could just create a disk image yourself too if it doesn't. Kylew option is likely best.

+1

All PC's and Laptops either come with a disc or they have the utility to burn your own discs. If you didn't burn your disc and it didnt come with one and you need one you can either get a copy of the internet thats the same version(non legit copy) and just use your valid key or contact the manafacture and they will send out a new set of discs at a cost/ normally around £30

This is what I've always done. It's not always easy to come across an OEM untouched ISO of the version you want. Vista home premium for e.g. It always seems like it's silly doing it this way. There should be a more effective way.

P.S. Not everyone burns recovery discs, not all laptops/desktops have that option. Although they should I suppose. Speaking more for the the general user here, not myself.
