Depends on the reason for comparing imo. Things like AM4 not being infinite change personal value for example. So i'd agree with you to an extent.

Yet, IMO the 5600 none X will at a later date for around $249. They just didn't release them together this time round.

The 5600X is not poor value anyway, 5600X at £280 vs the 10700K at £380, people pointing at core counts are straw clutching in exactly the same way the Bulldozer crowd did, you didn't buy the FX-8150 because it had 8 cores, you bought the 2500K because despite it only having 4 cores it was still a better CPU.

I've not seen anyone compare the RTX 2060 to the RTX 3070 yet, just because the RTX 3060 hasn't been announced, they've not gone and started making a comparison that isn't valid.

Is the 5600X more expensive that the 3600/X/XT? Yes. Are you forced to buy one, because the 5600 hasn't announced/isn't out yet? No.

Oh, and what is even more humorous is people then comparing the prices post launch, "Oh but you could get a 3600 for £7.52, which makes it even worse" Forgetting to mention that the £7.52 figure was 6+ months after it was actually launched. Price go down, MSRP can be dropped, good luck increasing an MSRP after it has been announced.

I disagree. Exactly because the 5600 is not released yet and we don't know if it will ever be, there is nothing else to compare the 3600 with but with the 5600X, and more importantly, you can get the same performance from 3600, skipping 3600X altogether because it's more expensive.

Price increase is 50%, no matter how you look at it.

The funniest thing is the seller of the £7.52 was outside of the UK, had a rating of 52% and a history of goods never arriving.

The cheapest 6 core 3xxx series CPU is vastly cheaper than the cheapest 6 core 5xxx series. Same for the 8 cores. Whether AMD decided to chuck an X on the end of the name is irrelevant.

We would have to define vastly, but if you are looking for “cheap” 6 cores you have options. You can buy a 1600X, 8400 or 1090T and board for vastly less.

Lisa Su has stated many times that AMD don't want to the value company any more. To do that they need to raise consumer perception and ASP.

I remember pre 5700XT launch, YouTubers were hyping it to the moon. Was it MLID or the Scottish chap who was spouting insanely low prices and high performance? I remember thinking that was the exact opposite of what AMDs current mission statement was.

Would I buy a 5xxx? Nope, not yet. Plenty of legs left in my 3700X, although it's a nice option to have in a couple of years when they will be cheap

As a percentage difference it is pretty big.

There are many ways to compare and they are all valid depending on your perspective.
Entry level for 6C and 8C at launch:

3600 v 5600X = $199 v $299 = $100 ~50% increase.
3700X v 5800X = $329 v $479 ($449 + $30 for Heatsink) = $150 ~46% increase.

Looking just at that data, the pricing looks terrible.
But there are other ways to look which are much more positive. E.g. the 12C/16C.
For me, I look at the prices in the marketplace at the time I actually buy.
That’s actually real rather than arbitrary RRP, $ pricing, pricing from last year etc.
So when they are released I would look at the street prices of Zen 3 and also for Zen 2 and even Intel.
Other comparisons can be fun but ultimately they are theoretical.
I don’t buy theories but actual products at today’s prices; below are estimates as if you hunt you will do better.

3600 v 5600X £180 v £290
3700X v 5800X £285 v £429

For many the 5600X is the better option than the 3700X due to the IPC gain, so that leaves us with:
3600 £180
5600X £290
5800X £429

Add to that the 3900/3900X and we get
3600 £180 6C
5600X £290 6C
3900X £389 12C
5800X £429 8C
3900XT £449 12C

That’s why MANY people are saying these are poor value.

Sorry I fail to see how your post is relevant to anything.

For me it’s very simple. I have a 3600 I brought at launch for just under £200. To replace this 6 core for the new 6 core I will need to pay 50% more. I do not care about the X it’s meaningless to me. I will not pay that price neither would I pay PS5 money for the 5800x. Therefore Amd have lost a sale. I’m disappointed but I’ll manage.

I can't really blame them for putting prices up a bit being that they now have absolute dominance and no competition. The same as Intel and Nvidia have had for a while and yet a lot of people still bought them.
