what is it for? A new movie? Mortal Kombat 8 with an M rating? Should we wait for E3?

Michael Jai White as Jax? Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade? Baraka and Reptile as homicidal maniacs? This footage from what looks to be the next Mortal Kombat game or movie trailer is brutal, disgusting, and perfect.

Reader Kev directed us to this video, featuring a realistic new take on the Mortal Kombat franchise that has more in common with movies like suspense and horror films like Seven and Saw than anything resembling the campy video game to film adaptations we've seen in the past.

Last we heard, Warner Bros. was looking to reboot the film franchise. If this is the fruit of that effort, we approve wholeheartedly.

More likely this could be a live-action trailer for the next game. Either way, we approve.

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has indicated that the next game in the series would be shooting for an M rating. "People want an M-rated MK....dammit we will give them an M-rated MK." This would surely do the trick.

This is way too much star power for a fan project. We're digging around for more information. Considering the timing of this trailer, however, we expect we might hear more as E3 quickly approaches.

Could be a lot of fun if this is a new film. Seemed to long and used known actors - too much cash for a game promo, although if its a film there may well be a tie in.

Thats what I mean though. If its just a game trailer, known actors seems like unnecessary expense when they could do as much without them and save a wedge of cash, plus its seven minutes long, which suggests something bigger going on.

If its a game promo, Id say they put quite a bit of cash in!

I've only watched the first 30 seconds so far and the subtle music in the background made me think of the first Resident Evil film.

Edit: Some pretty cheesy stuff. Oh and Seven of Nine!!

If fact, watching it again it looks like it was made for TV. Possibly a sneak preview of a pilot for TV series?

Its got to be a film, way to much money to be pumped into it for it not to be. Looks pretty sweet as well though a little violent lol.

If you look very very closesly, with a large magnifying glass you can see the words "Not Directed by Uwe Boll" on the trailer :D

or atleast, it's my mind playing tricks on me.
