At home I have Sky Fibre with 40/10, lovely and fast. I'm on holiday near Helston in Cornwall staying with family currently, and I've just fitted an SSD to my Grandad's PC after his drive took a nosedive. So obviously everything needs re-installing, now at home, drivers and windows updates etc will download in a matter of seconds, however here it's not quite the case!
It's a very small village pretty much at the end of the line, the router is synced at 645/266kbps, which makes things painfully slow! I started a download from Steam last night which was a train sim game at about 7GB, I started this about 14 hours ago, and there's still about an hour to go!
And while that's running, anything else you try to do on the internet goes at sub dial-up level!
I just find it strange how it was only a few years ago we got 256kbps internet and that seemed blisteringly fast, yet going back to something that's twice as fast as that, it seems virtually un-usable!
Simple things like installing an app on my iPad now take 10 minutes plus! Don't get me wrong I love it down here, but until they sort the internet down here I'm not gonna live here
FTTC is apparently available in some areas, but not here yet. Sure as hell makes me appreciate what I got at home
I guess this may be a kind of pointless thread, but it's something to do while I wait for this download to complete
