Young Driver + Fast Car = Ooops

A-plan quoted me on my S2000 as if I was 25 even though my 25th was 2 months away. I guess it makes sense as most of the policy I will be 25 anyway.

It's possible, though tricky, to insure a car when it's offroad- I did this with my bike through NU, because I didn't have a licence at the time. Wasn't motor insurance, just regular high-value-item theft insurance, on a month by month renewal. Very cheap too, it was about a tenner a month.

It was a sod to get anyone to offer it though... My dad was in the business so he was able to ask around and get some good pointers.

Group 17 is nothing really. Only 19 and 20 make a big difference in price. For example:

VX220 2.2 group 17 - £1600 for me, 0ncb and 21 yrs old
VX220 Turbo group 19 - £2900 - ermm

My M3 was £2700 3rd P F&T when I was 18, that was group 19 in my mums name. If I were to insure it now in my name, it would be £3k in my own name fully comp.

Insurance really is a joke. How is the M3 considered 2 groups above the 2.2 VX220 which is faster? RWD maybe? who knows!

How about because more M3's led to claims than VX220's.

Result. BMW are going to fund £1k back into the car so the insurance can be done for a reasonable amount. Bell have also agreed to take my 10 months up to 2 years NCB. :D

Hi m8

Its certainly a very nice and quick car. I am sure you will enjoy the extra power/performance, handling and RWD over your Audi. :)

Fingers crossed for you that nothing else goes wrong and your in the new motor by end of this week. All I can say is BMW really dropped their pants, what a storming deal. :D

Hold on here, am I the only one who doesn't know what BMW is being spoken about? :p

Sounds great... but it could be crap

My money is on a 330i. Seems a logical upgrade from a diesel A4.

Could me a mini of somekind or perhaps a 1 series, he said the car is new and worth 19-20k so that rules out 3 series etc.
Hmm, it doesn't make sense it being a MINI, yet referring to the garage as "BMW". Also, £20k buys you a 120i - which NUD won't require you to be 25 to drive, surely? I don't think the car is "new new", just new to Slackworth :)

Hi m8

Wait!

Don't ditch a years no claims when you have only got another 2 months to wait. As I think once you get your 1st year NCB its like 25% discount and even if you already have a year getting another one makes quite a difference to quotes.

Its only 2 months and its not as if your buying a rare car, there will be just as good examples available in 2 months.

However for insurance try A-Plan and MCE to see what they offer. Its probably a waste of time but maybe give the confused website a go.

What will be hurting your quotes the most is your annual mileage as the more you do the more you pay.

I wouldn't use confused. I always used money supermarket.com to compare quotes from insurance companies as did my mates and it was superb getting me some great deals. Now last year before I took out another policy I used confused. I worked out the overall cost of the policy as I was going to pay in installments then I gave them a ring . The cheeky ******* put a couple of hundred quid on top of the price. Is that how these people make their money?
