Young Drivers Banned at Night?

Just what are they classifying as night time? In winter it's pitch black by 5pm.I see they're also saying that young people would be banned from carrying passengers of similar age. I load of people at my work would be screwed then. For example 3 girls here all 22 yrs old and live together (10 miles from work). They've worked here for 5 yrs.

If this was brought in they would no longer be allowed to car share to work and would have to cut their working hours during winter so that they're off the road before dark. I'd love to know how they'd plan on policing this

Whats the difference between me whos 22 with near on 5 years driving and someone who is 25 and just passed their test. Who is more of a risk?

Age discrimination is allowed when it is the younger ones taking the flak it seems.

Whoever came up with '24' needs their head looking at. I'd support it only up to a year after passing the test, regardless of age.

I think they should do the same with extreme weather conditions. So many people drive dangerously in the snow and don't understand that you NEVER use the breaks in the same way you do normally.

Enforcing it isn't a problem. Same as uninsured drivers. If you do get stopped by police then you're in the s'ter. If it was shown to reduce accidents and thus the premiums for all drivers then it should definitely be implemented for the greater good. Something is going to have to be done to control younger drivers as it's becoming more and more acceptable to write off a car.

Society is all about taking things away from individuals for the good of the whole. I don't see how your premiums come into this.

It would perhaps be sensible to allow a passenger over 25 who has had a license for 2 years, just like learner drivers.

Do you not object to a minimum number of professional driving lessons? Most people say they cost too much, they can't afford them and they're a great driver anyway because they passed after 4 lessons and a practise with mum.

Because my insurance premiums allow me to drive on the road and I should be equal to other drivers not restricted to types of passengers. I agree about the number of lessons, that's why I did pass plus to get extra experience on motorways and in different weather types.

I'm well aware of the current system and it's nothing like what I've proposed. Currently, if you hit the six point limit, your licence is revoked but you are then free to take your test again immediately, so you could be back on the road again within days.

This wasn't clear in your first post, hence my , confirmed by the fact the JanesyB said exactly the same thing as me even after you'd posted the above. :p

Hmmm I've spent £12k on a car, £1700 on insurance, £245 on tax, and a fortune on petrol, yet I won't be aloud to to drive when I want to... great, lol.

Wouldn't be surprised if I see it or something like it one day, hopefully we won't though.

You could apply that logic to speeding. 'I've paid my money so surely I can drive at 120MPH' down the M1? Not saying I'm agreeing with this, just disputing that it shouldn't be thrown out just because people have paid to get on the road.

Driving how you like, and when you like are two different areas though.

I think it's a farce that they would even consider this. It's effectively a curfew for young people with car's. Really not on.

They spent all that money learning to drive then can't actually be treated as adults? That's just wrong. I understand the accident issue, but it's still wrong.

But there are laws to handle that already. We don't need another pointless bloody law, that the understaffed Police force have to deal with.

Will never ever work. When I was 17 I done 90% of my driving. Mind you that was smashing it round the back roads or trying to get some lass in the back.

But I know when I crashed if it had been in the day.,I more than likely would have killed some one.

No but 'I've paid my money so surely I can be treated the same as everyone else who has paid their money', of course only if your licence is clean.

You're treated differently from day one, in your first two years if you hit 6 points you have to start again as opposed to someone driving for 5 years who could tally up 12 points before a ban...
