Your 10 best Spanish prem players

David Silva
Cesc Fabregas
Xabi Alonso
Cesar Azpilicueta
Santi Cazorla
Fernando Torres
David De Gea
Rodri
Juan Mata
Diego Costa

Can't say i remember much of Torres or Xabi at their peaks.

Tough one this one.

Cesc was amazing at Arsenal and had to leave to win trophies Even though he won a couple.

Torres was insane at Liverpool but dire at Chelsea. Ignore his Chelsea days and he’s the best. Mata was brilliant at Chelsea but dire at Utd from what I can recall.

Silva for the 10 years was outstanding and has the longevity.

DDG has been the best player at Man Utd for a good number of years he’s been at the club but feels weird ranking a keeper highly.

Alonso was brilliant for Liverpool, very under rated and gets very little credit as it all goes to a certain Gerrard.

Rest are just meh, 6-10 can be in any order really.

1. Silva
2. Torres
3. Cesc
4. Alonso
5. DDG
6. Rodri
7. Azpil
8. Mata
9. Cazorla
10. Costa

Started writing a list but realised it was largely just a mashup of the MOTD top10. Figured it would be more interesting to cite a few points about specific players (only first 3 are in order):
  • Fabregas is #1 for me, best player in the league in the late noughties
  • De Gea probably #2, every since I saw him as an 18 year old pulling off great saves and shouting orders at the Atletico defence, I knew he was destined for greatness.
  • Silva #3, I feel he a great player that sometimes gets overhyped a bit. For me, he's not quite as good as Fabregas.
  • Rodri suffers from CDM syndrome whereby he goes relatively unnoticed in games. He wouldn't be top of my mind when coming up with lists like this, but that doesn't mean he isn't a good player.
  • Torres is hard to place because he was awesome at Liverpool and very hit and miss at Chelsea. Lacks the consistency of some of the other players but has explosive potential.
  • Cazorla is one of my favourite players to watch simply because he literally makes the game more beautiful to watch due to his two-footedness. It's like a complete revelation that makes you wonder why players aren't trained much harder on their weak foot from a young age. 95% of the time when players receive the ball you see them move their body shape to play the ball with their stronger foot, it is so ugly after watching Cazorla. He creates half a yard of space for himself simply by positioning his body a certain way having total confidence he can receive and pass on either foot, it's completely irrelevant to him. In terms of pure beauty of technique from prem players, I'd say aside from Le Tissier and Bergkamp there's not really been anyone operating on his level. I mean he takes set pieces with both feet ffs depending on whether he wants to do an inswinger or outswinger!
  • Azpilacueta was very solid
  • Bellerin should have achieved more, 5 years ago I'd say he'd end up on this list one day
  • Hierro was an awesome player but only joined in the twilight of his career. So he's arguably a top10 spanish player in the Prem, but not based on his actual performances/longeivity in the prem.
  • Alonso is a contender for top 5
  • I like Mata but can't really make a case for him being better than several others on this list

Wonderful, wonderful player. So glad he made a comeback from his horrible ankle issues and got himself back into the Spanish squad. An absolute joy to watch.

You're probably right, I just remember him starting the 09/10 season like a train, scoring loads of goals that season. I'd certainly say he was up there with the best CMs at that time.
