Hi all,

My new pc arrived yesterday from OCUK

Upon setting up windows, it wouldn't let me proceed without an internet connection but I found a way to boot without

However, I am having a problem connecting to wi-fi, I went on the GIGABYTE website via my laptop and downloaded all the drivers (everything under audio and chipset) to a USB stick

Upon opening these files on the new pc via USB, it keeps saying access is denied (I can open the .zip file but it won't extract it) which is incredibly frustrating. £2000 PC and connecting to wi-fi is being a pain.

Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to extract the zip file first?

B850M DS3H does not have wifi. Only AX versions of Gigabyte motherboards have wifi.

wow thank you. I mean, as much as I appreciate the advice when it came to purchasing, almost feels like some kind of sick joke. Why in 2025, would anyone recommend a motherboard that does not support WiFi.

I'm not sure what my options are now, move my modem upstairs the only viable one? Not even sure if that is possible as I live in a flat and it's connected to the wall

Can i buy an adaptor of sorts? I get I should have double checked it but pffffffffffffffffffffft

because you didn't state you needed wifi??
we're not mind readers (at least, i'm not)

It's a caveat I'd assume one would add as opposed to expecting me make it clear that it's essential. Most people's preference / the norm would be to have a motherhood that supports it no? For sure, ethernet is better if possible but for many people, just not viable. Anyway, pointless debate, just got to focus on finding a solution.

Thanks, I'll get a USB adaptor for now and read through the additional suggestions a bit later. This evidently isn't an area of expertise for me so takes me a while to interpret correctly.

and we have lift off, working, still had to download the drivers for the adapter, move to a USB and port across.

Sorry if I was a little overzealous earlier but god I hate technical issues.

Spoke too soon, connection keeps dropping out which is infuriating.

Also, installed wow classic and every time I go to launch it, it crashes.

Pulling my hair out here. Windows update all complete along with GPUT drivers

You know the noise when you plug and uplug a usb, that’s happening but think it’s signifying the internet connection dropping.

So stressful :( - not only will it not connect to the net, it’s crashing every time I run wow.

Thank you, I have just disabled it.

With warcraft, uninstalled and trying to reinstall again

Ring OcUK tomorrow and seek advice. You shouldn't be getting any issues with a newly built and tested PC...

I don't think they are at fault at all. I think its just a case of should have ordered the MB which supports wi-fi and looks like it's an AMD driver issue with WoW.

The motherboard also doesn't support bluetooth. More bad news given my headsets work via bluetooth

Honestly, I'd rather just order another motherboard and get everything fitted again but it this even a viable option with the CPU already in place please?

An bit of a disaster this, £1900 spent - no bluetooth, no wi-fi and can't play World of Warcraft which was pretty much the main objective of building this new PC.

Thank you @Threepwood

I guess it would be cheaper to buy this and a wired headset than getting a new motherboard and paying someone to install the hardware all over again.

EDIT - I use the Hyper X Cloud 3 as my headset which has a mic on it and connects via USB (not bluebooth) so not the end of the world

Using the dongle, I am currently getting 167.03 download Mbps and 26.32 upload which is pretty good right? Thank God for @ED-209 for suggesting disabling USB selective suspend from Windows power plan othersiwe I think I think I'd have lost all my hair by now.

Thanks for your thorough reply and you're correct, all of these issues and solvable.

Given I use the headset listed above and it works via USB adaapter, the bluetooth 'issue' is on longer an issue.

With the wifi, like you say, can fix with a card (and I will do so) but right now the dongle is working well as a temporary measure.

So really, the only thing I need to focus on solving is WOW which I am going to go back to the drawing board on and try and find a solution.

You did indeed flag that AMD has some issues with WOW but I went for this card over the 5070 due to better performance reports, guess I was just hoping that I'd be lucky and not have any issues playing a 20 year old game with a £600 GPU :D

Also, I downloaded CSS and it runs fine.
