Oh, I like these kinds of thoughts. I still remember the first series of Red Dwarf when Holly asked Lister to erase Agatha Christie from his memory so he could read her books again...

HOLLY: Would you mind erasing some of my memory banks?

LISTER: What for?

HOLLY: Well, if you erase all the Agatha Christie novels from my memory bank, I can read 'em again tonight.

LISTER: How do I do it?

HOLLY: Just type, "HolMem. Password override. The novels Christie, Agatha." Then press erase.

LISTER: I've done it.

HOLLY: Done what?

LISTER: Erased Agatha Christie.

HOLLY: Who's she, then?

LISTER: Holly, you just asked me to erase all Agatha Christie novels from your memory.

HOLLY: Why should I do that? I've never heard of her.

LISTER: You've never heard of her because I've just erased her from your smegging memory.

HOLLY: What'd you do that for?

LISTER: You asked me to!

HOLLY: When?

LISTER: Just now!

HOLLY: I don't remember this.

As we can see, it can raise some problems. So, if we erase all of our memories, would we even remember what computers are? Let alone games?

So perhaps this is about erasing the memory of specific games so we can enjoy them again. But then what about the graphics and other time-sensitive expectations?

I mean, Deus Ex would look awful! And things like the tram ride at the start of Half Life amazed me first time around, but wouldn't make me bat an eyelid if I could remember all the other game intros since...

Okay, okay. I'll just go along with the spirit of this... :)

1. Deus Ex - just blew my mind in terms of how immersive a game could be
2. System Shock 2 - close second in mind-blowing
3. Half-Life - this one may depend on having memory erased of the sequels and other games since, but it was still ace.
4. Morrowind - best RPG ever imho
5. Baldurs Gate II
6. Planescape: Torment
7. Portal 1 & 2 - sneaking two in here. They're both quite short, but so wonderful to play through the first time.
8. Call of Duty 1 - mostly for the Stalingrad level, which still kind of haunts me to this day
9. Resident Evil 1 - the sequels never matched the feeling I got first time out
10. WoW - for basically the same reasons as Omaeka. I honestly wouldn't have put this on the list but for reading his post, but actually it sums up how I feel about this game if I'm honest...

1. Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Human Revolution
2. Final Fantasy VII
3. Final Fantasy VIII
4. Metal Gear Solid
5. Mass Effect (with a warning about the 3rd game)
6. Grim Fandango
7. Skyrim
8. Fallout New Vegas
9. Dragon Age Origins
10. San Andreas

^ The question wasn't 'what will you do next?', it was 'which games would you put on a list to play?'.

It would need to be in order that they came out. If you played Far Cry 3 and then the original half life you'd be disappointed with HL with the graphics etc.

1. Sensible World of Soccer
2. Indiana Jones & The fate of Atlantis
3. Frontier: Elite II
4. Championship Manager 01/02
5. Final Fantasy VII
6. Command & Conquer
7. Half Life
8. Metal Gear Solid
9. Jedi Knight II: Jedi Academy
10. Half Life 2
11. Portal
11. Mass Effect Series
12. Portal 2
13. Left 4 Dead Series
14. Football Manager 2013

probably missed loads.

The trouble with doing this list is that some of the older games that really *touched me* (not in a special way) might play/look a bit dated. But here goes.

1. Psychonauts
2. Fahrenheit (aka Indigo Prophecy)
3. World of Warcraft
4. Beyond Good & Evil
5. Jagged Alliance 2
6. GTA III
7. Braid
8. Hitman: Blood Money
9. Deus Ex
10. Counter Strike 1.6 (but that would involve rewinding time so I'm back on a 56k modem struggling to get my ping below 180 playing on uk2.net servers... happy times).

While these aren't in any thought out order, I'd oddly love to forget my favourite games, and then play through them again:

1. Kingdom Hearts series
2. Metal Gear Solid series
3. Final Fantasy series
4. Shin Megami Tensei series
5. Mass Effect series
6. Tales series
7. Zelda series
8. Uncharted series
9. Shadow of the Colossus
10. Heavy Rain

1. Manic miner, c64
2. Bombjack, c64
3. Xenon 2, amiga
4. Gunship, amiga
5. Gauntlet, amiga
5.5! The last ninja, amiga
6. Shinobi, amiga
7. Call of duty, pc
8. Grid, pc
9. COD modern warfare, pc
10. BF3, pc

Oh wow, I haven't even thought of that game in 25 years or so, but it may have been the first game I really sank so many hours into that I stayed up an entire night until morning playing it (with my parents none the wiser, thankfully). What a great game. If I was to include non-PC titles on my list, that would definitely have a place.

I think I'd rather leave a list of games that I should avoid at all costs...

However, if I was forced, off the top of my head it would be:

Gunship 2000 (Amiga)
IL2 Sturmovik 1946 (PC)- Would be great to have to learn how to fly again :)
X-Com Enemy Unknown (the original - PS1)
Tomb Raider (PC Anniversary version but I'd want all the others erased too)
Elite - (Amiga - Was never quite sure the BBC/Electron versions had the missions but the Amiga version sure did)
Wings (Amiga)
FFVII (PS1)
Gran Tourismo (PS1)
Bioshock 1 & 2 (PC)
Dead Space (PC)
Resident Evil (PS1)
Battlefield 1942 (PC)
Descent (PC)
