Your bad driving encounters

At what point does filtering (motorbike) stop becoming filtering and just start taking the ****?

2 lane carriageway and the traffic is doing the speed limit of 40mph mph yet a biker then decides to filter between both lanes doing around 50-55mph. Is it just me or is that no longer filtering?

I was told by a bike instructor, when traffic is less than double figures is filtering, double figures is taking the ****.

But then he also told me not to filter at junctions, crossings and not to think the bicycle ASLs meant me too.

Has anyone else noticed the rise in poor driving from those driving Nissan vehicles, especially the SUV type and at a certain age of vehicle.

And Vulva EVs...

The Juke has always had a fair percentage of poor drivers in my experience.

Qashqai in my experience is worse.

Depends what he meant. You are not meant to filter past the lead vehicle at a controlled junction/crossing. Also, ASLs are, AFAIK, not for motorbikes to use.

People who can’t stop for a queue or junction in one go. It’s stop. Then pull a little bit more forward when a car stops behind them. Then wait a second. Then pull a bit more forward.

What’s wrong with these people?
Then it makes you look odd with a huge gap in front of you.

From a risk/reward view he's right I tend not to bother at junctions/crossings/too close to the entry to roundabouts because people at those points are paying even less attention to what's around them and just looking to get going. Bicycle ASLs aren't for motorbikes.

When a two lane road merges into one, nowadays people seem to ignore the arrow saying move over and force their way in when they run out of road.

I've even had people overtaking me after I've merged, just so they can force their way in one or two cars ahead.

Also when joining motorways, rather than getting up to speed quickly and merging into the flow early, people just trundle along the slip road and force their way in at the end.

Had somebody last night going 30 in a nsl. It was roadworks (hence the 30), but they passed nsl and didn't change speed. I flashed my lights several times and beeped my horn, but they must have been a deep sleeper  . It worries me that people like it are driving as there were a few cars in front that did get to the limit, and I can't understand why the driver didn't think "oh those cars are going much faster than me, maybe the speed limit has changed".

I'm aware that the ASL isn't for motorbikes but I see it far too often that a lot of crotch-replacement riders think it is.

Get this multiple times a day as a bus driver. The "Gotta beat the bus" mentality.

YouTube riders do that, the ones around London. I have seen Baron Von Grumble do it all the time. It gets passed on from there perhaps. Being new to UK then I did assume that it was ok. Way before I did my DAS anyway. I came to know by reading comments gradually that it is not legal.

It's one of those things no one is particularly bothered about but if you got a grumpy copper by the letter of the law you've jumped the red light if you're in the box.

I saw something this morning which made me feel a bit sick to be honest given how bad it could have gone.

i was stuck in traffic as usual in the work rush choke point and a motorbike bombed it past me, they were weaving a lot and squeezing between almost statonary traffic and on coming traffic at fairly high speed i strongly suspect faster than the 40mph speed limit). i had no idea they were coming up behind me (i was moving at a snails pace so to be fair i wasnt looking)

ok nothing new there, motorbikers gonna motorbike etc (and blame the car driver if they have an accident ......... but i digress)

but what turned my stomach was on the back riding pillion was a child, who if anything looked smaller than my lad (who is 9 years old), and whilst they did have a crash hat, they didnt have biker leathers or anything (not that they would have helped had the child fallen off and gotten squashed by an oncoming car or one of the cars in the queue doing something unexpected who didnt anticipate a motorbike flying up behind them.

Driving along a nice wide A road (30mph) yesterday when a car pulled out ahead of me from the community centre.
Slow to accelerate so immediately thought pensioner.
Kept my distance, swerving in and out around parked cars rather than just keeping a straight line, watched as they started getting closer and closer to the parked cars.
Put even more distance between me and them when they got so close to a parked scaffolding truck they lost part of their mirror, they carried on.
Passing a wide side road they swerved for some reason into it and back out but not fast enough and at 28mph got the curb, I was waiting for a blow out or for them to say last stop and check their wheel but no, totally oblivious and carried on. Amazing driving, I turned off at that point wish I could have watched what else they did.

Some **** opened their driver's door on me as I was running past yesterday afternoon. Luckily just missed it, but the corner could've easily gone straight into my chest.

Presumably people will question why I was running so close to a car on the pavement, but there's little choice considering it's a street where cars are (legally) parked on half of it leaving no more than a door width available. The alternative is to run in the road (a 20mph limit residential street) which I often do, but you can guess how that goes down with many drivers.

that could have been nasty. I would not for 1 second blame you, that would clearly be the person in the car at fault.
That said............. if i am being completely honest i have had a couple of near misses over the years where i could easily have accidentally done just that where i must have forgotten to check if i was tired or distracted.

shout out to my car now, it has a really good feature where my mirrors flash warnings if anyone is in the cars vicinity and should you actually go to open the door, or reverse etc, it alarms. I am not saying i rely on it, but.... lets just say i know it works due to experience ;)

Train yourself to do the Dutch Reach every time, until it becomes your normal way of opening the door, takes a little while but once it becomes the default you will always do it.

Just to say this is aimed at everyone not just Mike, only replied to Mike as his post was relevant

Does bad parking count? If so:

These aren't even small spaces. Top drawer YPLAC.

Me at a round about this morning waiting to turn right, my turn right indicators on.

Car approaches round about from right with his left indicators on.

I pulled out to go he just drives straight on, so very close to accident.

I guess even though someone is indicating don't trust them wait until no one is coming.
