What pieces of hardware made you smile that you've bought? Was it the first voodoo cards, or that magical celeron 300A @ 450, or the 8800 GTX?

1. Voodoo 2. I loved this little card, it made HL and Q2 look amazing for their time. Was the first 3d card I've ever owned.
2. Q6600. I've still got this chip, and really still impressed how it performs even now.
3. Dell 2007WFP. I only got rid of this monitor last year, though I had a 20" widescreen before, this destroyed it in quality.
4. Athlon 64 Venice 3000. I overclocked mine to 2.7GHZ, and it was very impressive for back in its day! :D

My fifth could likely tie the 9800 pro... but I can't decide between it and a few other purchases like my 24" screen. :p

Probably my Q6600 which seemed surpassed anything thrown at it.
ATI 5850 GPU'S run quiet when gaming and again run anything thrown at them.
Patriot Memory when I upgraded to i7, had 2 lots of faulty OCZ memory.

My 5 would be.

1. Benq fp241w 24" lcd, upgraded from a viewsonic vx2025 which was also pretty sweet. (still have this)
2. Nvidia gtx 280, first card capable of running games at a decent res/detail on the above lcd.
3. Asus p5q deluxe p45 mobo, great clocking board.
4. Q6600, 3.8ghz with relative ease on the above mobo.
5. E6600, my first overclocked cpu, 3.7 ghz in an nforce 680i mobo.

Had lots and lots of other stuff that has impressed me, currently run an i7 with sli gpu's, but the above items are the ones that stand out for me.

The one that stands out is my Radeon 9600 Pro (think I still have it in a machine!), playing half life 2 on it was utterly epic at the time as I'd come from onboard gfx on a Tiny PIII at 450mhz or something similarly dreadful.

My GTX280 was also a great purchase, but I'm somewhat prematurely moving on this month to 5770CF. The GTX280 is still more than capable and will be for some time I think.

In terms of sound, not sure if it really counts as PC hardware, but my new audio setup pees over my old one so bad it's crazy! I got a Cambridge Audio stereo amp and Tannoy bookshelf speakers. They make my old creative set sound like ****, and I always thought they weren't too bad.

Oh, and finally my Samsung SM226BW I have a love/hate relationship with. Whenever these threads come up though it gets a mention. Moving from an old 17" LCD to a 22" widescreen one made a massive difference to my PC experience, I think most people will agree a new, bigger monitor makes a big impact.

1.Going from onboard graphics to nvidia 6 series
2.4870x2. seeing crysis on that was amazing. i regret selling it :(
3.corsair h50. brilliant cooler

Most of my components, bit I do meticulously research stuff before I buy it...

But the q6600 stands out as a best buy, I can't justify upgrading it, I reckon its got another 18 months in it easily, and I've had it for the best part of three years already.

Hercules 9800 Pro, complete with a free HL2 coupon.
AXP 2500+ Barton chip.
Abit IP35 Pro, a dream to clock on.

Then Late 08 MBP. /runs!
