1996 Citroen Saxo 1.1X - Liked it, good first car
2001 Citroen Xsara 1.4LX - Underpowered
2002 Citroen Xsara 1.6LX - Liked this, interior was a bit naff
2003 Citroen C5 2.2 HDi SX - Very comfortable cruiser
1993 Citroen Xantia 1.9TD - Cheap runaround after C5 went, 200k+ on the clock, never let me down.
2000 Ford Focus 1.8 Ghia - Didn't like it, the damping was terrible - it had hard springs and bouncy shocks and never really settled on bumpy roads and made me feel sick. Zetec models much better.
2002 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Zetec - Good car, needed another gear though.
2005 Ford Mondeo ST 2.2 TDCi - Loved it. Fairly quick with a remap but 50MPG on a run. Comfortable interior and firm but well damped ride.
2007 Skoda Octavia vRS - Never really clicked with it. Not very comfortable upfront, awful in the back. Great engine and brakes. Golf GTI probably worth the extra. Sold it to my Dad who quite likes it.
2005 Ford Mondeo ST 2.2 TDCi - Same one as above. Sold it as getting a bit tired, but very reliable during the time I had it.
2003 Fiesta 1.4 Zetec - Runaround for the GF. Really solid little car even at 10 years old.
2008 Mazda 3 2.0 Sport - Only had this a few weeks. Needed a well equipped medium hatch and this seems to fit the bill and was good value too. Comfortable, quiet, and rides well. 2.0 petrol engine very quiet at low revs, interior could be better in places and steering is totally lifeless and artificial compared to the Mondeo.

Aug 2006 - N plate 1995 Peugeot 205 1.1, this was my first car that I ever purchased at 17 and I was still learning to drive at the time but I passed in May 2008 and I then got to use it properly. For a first car and in terms of running reliability it was great (only 71K on the clock) but the electrics (2 front electric windows & central locking surprisingly!) were a bit hit & miss and it was a bit of a shock to see the drivers side window fall down the door one day... however it never broke down on me once and always started on the button. Sadly I went into the back on a bus at 5mph in Jan 2009, the end result was a dent in the end of the bonnet, smashed headlight, huge hole in the bumper & a smashed grill and I subsequently sold the car on to a mate for a mere £50 and it was still only on 77K.

Feb 2009 - 02 plate Ford Fiesta MK5 1.2, as I was out of a car and had no spare funds at the time I ended up borrowing some money and purchased this motor. Great little car with only 55K when purchased and really reliable, not much to say about it really but the suspension system on this car really was shocking, well I found out when the MOT was due exactly a year after purchase that the rear bushes were completely shot (common problem if I remember correctly) but even after having them replaced the ride was still somewhat uncomfortable.

May 2010 - 52 plate Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec. I had been on the hunt for something a little bit bigger and more comfortable for a while and originally I had my eyes set on a VW Bora but at the time there was not a decent one within my budget so I decided to settle for this Focus. In a way I took a bit of a gamble with it as it was on 110K but it did have a lot of service history & stamps in the book but to the sellers knowledge it had not had the cambelt changed at any point and he apparently had the clutch replaced a week prior as it had started to slip when he got it from the auction but he could not produce proof at the time due to "not putting it through the books" hhmmm... Anyway I had already test drove 3 other Focus's prior to viewing this one and all of them had been badly treated but this one was by far the most taken care of. The clutch on the car did feel "new" you could say as it had a low biting point so in a way I believed him and he offered to take my Fiesta in at a good price so I thought sod it and did the deal, and I'm really glad I did. I owned this car for 2 years and apart from the coil pack dying 4 months down the line, it never let me down! However, I didn't want to tempt fate and I did end up having the cambelt done at 118K just to be on the safe side, 7 months after purchasing the car. When I sold it last year it was on 135K, I never did need the clutch replacing and it was still running strong (and it's still on the road today as far as I know).

April 2012 - 52 plate Seat Leon S 1.6. I decided to sell the Focus as I was offered my Step Dad's Leon for a great price and it was only on 71K, in a way I didn't want to sell the Focus though as it had been a great car and I always enjoyed driving it and loved how comfortable it felt. Anyway the Leon was still a reliable and comfortable car, I did a lot of modding on it during ownership (17" Starfish alloys, 40mm springs & sports shocks, Cupra steering wheel). However in a way I found the car in general to feel a bit sluggish at times and not so great to drive and I started to get a bit restless with it.

Dec 2012 - 03 plate Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec. Yep, that's right! - I purchased another Focus! I decided to restore the Leon back to standard and sell it on as I missed everything about a Focus. I spent a week hunting one down and in the end I settled for this one, it had done 104K when I got it and it's currently on 109K. What more can I say about it? It's a Focus! It runs and feels lovely but it does in general though feel even more comfortable in terms of handling and suspension when compared to my last 52 plate Focus. This one as well is also exactly the same spec as my last one.

May 2013 - W plate 2000 Volkswagen Bora 1.6 SE. Here we go yet again! Another new car so soon (only yesterday in fact lol!) I've always kept a close but discreet eye on Bora's ever since first wanting to own one back in 2010 but I've never been able to shell out for a decent & well looked after one until now... I got it for a bargain and even though it's nearing 13 years old, it's in very good condition and despite it being on 126K now - it drives & feels like it has only done half the mileage.

There we go. In general now though I'm happy with where I am with cars and I can see myself owning this Bora for quite a few years at least or even until it dies, I've got no desire to change to another car (unless a 1.9 TDI Bora comes my way, but fat chance of that for a long time yet!) as I love the look and feel of these cars. Needless to say, at the minute I currently own 2 cars (first time ever!) the Focus still and now this Bora. The Focus is currently up for sale and has been for nearly 2 weeks now, got someone coming to view it tomorrow so hopefully it sells :).

In order of ownership:

2004: M Reg 1.1L Nissan Micra. First car, had it during my placement year before going to Uni. Had no idea about cars back then, didn't even get a choice. A family friend bought it for £1100, handed me the keys and that's it. The car is absolutely shocking to drive, but it's ok for a first car as it got me from A to B. It has loads of rot underneath and failed it's first MOT in my ownership. Had it welded up by a friend and sold for £600 before going to Uni.

2008: 51Reg 2.0 Zetec Mondeo. Took the advice on the forum and got the car everyone else on here got back then after coming out of Uni for about £2K. With the Micra being my last car, it was like the most comfortable and fastest car I have ever driven. It was also the first car that I started working on. The diff exploded within about 6 months of me getting it though. Left quite a bit of a mess and had to be recovered from London back to Swindon. Bought a 2nd hand transmission off ebay and had it fixed. Sold it not long afterwards because of a much longer commute (100miles per day) demanding a Diesel.

2009: 55Reg Skoda Octavia 1.9. First diesel I had, it was incredibly efficient. So efficient that I think there is something wrong with it. I regularly get 60-70MPG out of a tank and cost me next to nothing to run. All I have done to it was regular service and a cambelt when it was due. It was a PD engine with no DPF so had no problem with it except for a gear lever that would not return back to the middle. Sold it when I got a company car to do my commute on for something faster. Definitely a car I would consider buying again if I have to commute in my own car again.

2011: 11 Reg Honda Jazz 1.4: Given to me as a company car for next to nothing. It is not very comfortable for the commute. However, it got me from A to B. Petrol cost more than my Octavia so it was actually more expensive to run than having my own car. Moved on to the next company car after a year.

2011: 53 Reg Skoda Octavia VRS which I still have on my drive. Pretty much a straight swap for my Diesel Octavia. Bought it mainly to have something faster and more fun to drive. That 1.8T engine is a bit of a nightmare. After owning it for a month, it was throwing fault codes left right and centre. It ended up needing a MAF sensor, a coolant sender, a themostat and a battery to sort out all the engine problems. Then had an ABS sensor went which was a pig to change. Been reliable since though and is great fun to drive and very pratical.

2012: 12 Reg Honda Jazz Hybrid. My next company car. Fuel cost finally work out to be about the same as my Diesel Skoda. The CVT gearbox was OK as it was only for a commute. As uncomfortable to drive as the other Jazz. Swap for another company car afterwards.

2013: 13 Reg Honda Civic 1.6 Diesel. My current company car. Fuel cost actually work out to be about the same as the Jazz/Skoda Diesel. Was surprise as it's meant to be the latest technology that is super efficient. However, it is so much more comfortable than a Jazz on the motorway. Heated seat and built in Nav are also great features. It also handled surprisingly well for a Civic.

2013: J Reg Japan import MR2. I had so much fun driving my friend's S2000 I decided I need something more interesting to drive. Went on autotrader then Gumtree and came across this MR2 for sale at £450. Went to look at it, it had an oil leak from rockercover gasket and the speedo does not read correctly. Got him down to £330 and basically took his hand off for it. My heart sunk when I drove it away as the clutch was slipping. Adjusted the pedal and it's now fine surprisingly. Fixed the oil leak, done an oil change/spark plugs/rotor/distributor cap. It's now running really well and is great fun to drive. Nothing else I have owned come even close to it. Unfortunately, I promised my wife I would sell it after fixing all the little problems on it for a profit. Want to keep it now. I think it is even more fun to drive than my friend's S2K.
