Your Cherry switch preference

Would love to have made this a poll.

I'll be in the market for a Mechboard in March, I wanted Red switches because I think it's more like the keyboard I am using now, but I'm also considering Blue. Which ever Switch I go for I'm definitely having the Qpad MK-80 instead of the 85 because I want the blue backlights.

Just wondering what you guys think about switches, what's your preference?
 
Had blue switches, found them great for typing. But not so great for gaming. Double tapping the keys in games didn't work to good I felt.

Using browns now, ok for typing but much better for gaming.

Browns are just a good all round switch, as they are a cross between the blues and reds.
 
bought my mum the qpad mk80 with blues cause she's a writer. i have the mk85. blues are noisier and have a discernable click at the point where the switch is made. Apparently less errors are made when typing with blue switches.

Red switches are quieter and are a easier to depress, meaning faster key presses and better for gaming.

i'd go for mk80 with reds. it's what i wanted but the mk85 was on a deal at the time
 
Myself, I've had both blues and red and although blues are better for typing and what not, I wouldn't ever go back to blues after using reds, they feel much nicer, they're far superior for gaming, they're easier to press, they don't tire your fingers after long periods of typing.

imo, I'd do yourself a favor and just go for reds.
 
ive not actually got a mech yet, so i dont know what it would be like for long periods of time, but for me it went red > brown > blue

the blues just seemed to clicky for me...
 
For me its:

1) Browns. Light tactile feel that is good for gaming and typing.

2) Blacks. Nice feel, good for gaming and typing.

If you are worried about the noise caused by the clicky nature of the MX Blues, go for the browns. They have a lighter feel to them so that they are easier type with, as well as having the same tactile nature. I only have the space bar and enter key with a dampener on to try and reduce noise - even though they weren't that loud to begin with. :)

I use reds, but I wish I had browns because occasionally I'll double tap a key or mistakenly hit a key without knowing if I hit it hard enough to register a keypress. Reds are the dogs for gaming though.
 
Been using a Cherry G80 with blues for 15+ years, the best for for typing and also great gaming (switch type for gaming is entirely personal preference as you will usually be bottoming out the keys anyway so clicks and feedback are a mute point).
 
1) Brown.
2) Black.
3) Blue.

It's all about the B's.

Depends what use - browns are a great all around switch but blacks are awesome for FPS gaming (personally I don't rate them for typing). My old keyboard had clears which IMO were the best of all - nearly all the benfits of blacks for FPS gaming, generally very good for all gaming types while still being very useable for typing. I don't have a huge amount of experience with reds but from what I do have I'd say they make great switches for RTS, etc. type games but probably not so good as an all around switch.

I made the move from reds to blues and I regret nothing. Reds were just far too light for my liking, I would find myself resting in the WASD position and suddenly I'm drifting sideways because I've accidentally pressed the key down.

Since I moved to blues I've not had that issue at all. Blues have been a fantastic experience for me both in gaming and typing/general use. Strangely enough I found the reds pretty good for typing on, but the tactile click from blues just enhances the experience so much more.

I have tried blacks out as well, but I found them far too much for working with. I just did not enjoy the experience as it was far to tough for constant use in my opinion. I did want to try out browns, but I bit the bullet and went for blues instead. I can imagine browns being a little better for all-round use, but I will just have to wait for my Mk-85 to break down before I move to another keyboard.

I would advise that you try out the boards before you settle on one, as your experience can vary between the switches.
 
It's looking to me like Red switches are most like my keys right now, so I'll be going for Reds for sure because I don't think I'll have a problem with the easy to press keys.
