I am thinking of getting the following components as an upgrade for my present system:

Asus P5W64-WS Pro Intel 975X (Socket LGA775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard - £187.99 inc VAT

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail - £229.11 inc VAT

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) - £199.74 inc VAT

OcUK MSI GeForce 7900 GTO SILENT 512MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail - £170.36 inc VAT

Seasonic S12 600W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply - £93.99 inc VAT

Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler - £34.06 inc VAT

The system would be used for video work (large files), some gaming etc, and would be overclocked to around 3GHz.

Any suggestions or comments most welcomed. :)

do you need the workstation board

do you need quad 16x PCI-E slots ?

if not get the much cheaper P5W DH Deluxe

and if you've got that much money to spend one of the new nforce i680 boards would be much better, they have twin 16x PCI-E

If your not going to use 4pci-e slots then get the p5wdh which will be fine for the 6600. The p5wdg2 ws pro can do much higher fsb but does cost more. I went for the latter and think its a great board

Thank you for your comments, much appreciated.

Had a look at a review of the nforce 680i, and was given a very good review indeed.....food for thought. :)

I ended up buying the following:

EVGA nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard.

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB).

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC).

MSI GeForce 7900 GTO SILENT 512MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail.

Seasonic S-12 80+ efficiency 12cm fan, Active PFC 550watt.

Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler.

Thank you for your constructive comments. :)

if you are going to be overclocking i'd recommend changeing the cpu and board to a 6400 and p5b deluxe or ds3/4 as this will save you vast amounts of money and clock just as well!

fair enough if money isn't a issue but why not use the money saved to treat the mrs or better yet put it toward a other area of the comp monitor etc?

because the 6600 has 4mb L2 cache and is a conroe

the 6400 is only 2mb and allandale
