Your current Fish tank Setups!

No new additions to my 6-foot freshwater African tank for quite a while, been gradually losing fish in there over the last ~7 years, most recent loss was my African Knife Fish that I'd had for ~13 years. All that's left now is four Silver Distichodus, a Synodontis angelicus and a Synodontis schoutedeni. Out of nowhere, the "golfball stomach" S. schoutedeni has a huge open sore behind its right eye, nearly the size of a 50p coin. At the moment, I'm guessing it's a fight injury with the other syno, but I can't be sure... Normally both are very secretive fish, unlike the distichodus group, that will normally swim over to me if I'm in front of the tank. :(

Last time I had an open sore like that in that tank was when I still had my quartet of Euchilichthys catfish, one poor fish came to the tank front with an open sore ~7x3cm and died the next day.

Trying to decide what to do for the best, I've added a bit more tank furniture to reduce line of sight, but part of me wonders about risking moving the schoutedeni to keep my 15 year old Leopard Bushfish company despite the dangers of stress making things worse.

Bristlenose Catfish. Great algae eaters.

The plants are almost doing too well, need a trim soon:


The Siamese algae eaters are really fun to watch, they are so active. A couple of the loaches were out today too, I guess they haven’t settled into their nocturnal routine yet.

I have a pothos plant arriving soon, will be another good addition to the top of the tank and should be great at filtering the water.

Got some new corals on Friday, glad to say they've settled in.

Unfortunately I lost both my fireshrimp and I'm not sure why. I had an ICP test done and everything seemed fine.

Going to monitor the tank and see about maybe getting some more next weekend.

Just noticed you have some Inch Plants growing out of the tank, we've had some growing in a standard pot by the east facing window for a while and I wondered about adding some to fish tanks to help mop up nutrients plus give a bit of colour
 
Unfortunately the chalice is not doing well at all. I've moved it to a lower area of the tank to see if it recovers.

On the plus side of things, after months of hunting, I finally got a Pitho crab.


Who knows if he's appetite will change, but right now I'm so happy he's munching on the bubble algae!
 
Wound on my Synodontis schoutedeni is slowly but steadily healing up, few panics along the way, when I couldn't see the ~6" catfish for a number of days.
 
My kenya tree has a couple of swollen arms today.
From what I'm reading, it's either shedding it's skin or it's getting ready to drop them to propagate the tank.
I'm hoping it's the former, I don't room for anymore kenya trees!
 
Anyone had a Fluval Shaker aquarium? Looking at the 345L. Used to have a 4x2x2 and a 6x3x2 so this is a little smaller but looks smart, the filter setup looks neat. Not sure what i'd stock it with yet, be some Polypterus, some smaller active fish a cichlid of some sort.

Not that exact model, but I do have 2 fluval tanks and they are well built. One is quite old and is still solid.

That's good to know, i've seen some setups in garden centres and some look cheaply built. My last ones were from ND Aquatics which was solid and one that i built myself.
 
I'd had a feeling it was going to happen soon, because he's become far less social in recent weeks, but I had to say goodbye to my male halfbeak a short time ago. He was born during the Italian F1 Grand Prix '13 to a female who must have been pregnant before purchase ~2 weeks previous, I missed saving his sibling born moments earlier by seconds due to canabalism. This fella grew into a mischievious ~4cm TL that lived in my tank of little peaceful fish for 12 years, often harmlessly stalking other midwater fish and sometimes trying to eat food far too big for his slender mouth, given the condition of him when found against the side of the Fluval U4 filter I suspect he dies yesterday on the day of the Italian F1 Grand Prix.

I never did conclusively identify which species of Halfbeak he was, one of those fish that certainly in the past were often misidentified.

A good innings for a fish that typically lives ~5 years!
 
Time for some updates and more fish. Have added 3 Anthias, a Wrasse and our second attempt at a (bigger) bicolour angel. I also spotted a rather large starfish that I’ve not seen before.

Next plan is to take some of the anemones out that have taken over a bit. Hoping to add a toadstool back in too.
 
Any advice on transporting fish to be re-homed by the fish shop?

I recently remodelled my tank as it was very well planted, but as a result had been over run by platies, I've got dozens of them from full grown to tiny fry in a spare tank.

I'm planning on taking them to the fish shop which is about 20 mins away but obviously I don't have proper bags and an oxygen source to do it properly. Aside from a half filled bucket of tank water and cling film over the top to stop it splashing in the car, I'm at a bit of a loss.
