What are the average ambient temps of your servers in the data center?

The cold isle temperature monitor records the isle as 20'c however my servers are averaging anything from 28'c to 34'c. I've had the data center install rack blanking plates to help direct the cold flow of air into the servers. This has helped slightly but they still go into the 30's. I've spoken with Dell Support who advise I should not exceed 35'c for the PE2950 servers.

What kind of temperatures do you see from your equipment in the data center?

Thats system board ambient temp.

The Dell DRAC5 interface only lists that as an available temp & vSphere infrastructure client only shows that value as well :(

I think mine are at 18c inside, will check tomorrow but I am fairly sure they are not as high as yours!

Small Data centre here, 30 rack mounted servers, 2 iSeries, + usual network gubbins (say 2 racks roughly)

2 A/C units, set at 20c

Outside temp is anything between 25 in the morning to 35 at 1-3pm.

Spook environmental controls reports room temps at 22-23c

On my older PE1850, I get loads of different temps, CPU0, CPU1, Motherboard etc via OpenManage ... it seems all my PE2950s just have one temp reading...

~20oC, have been in DC's where an Air Con unit has blown out and the air temp was 45oC however - that was interesting!

Our AC developed a fault in the main comms room of our building yesterday - was apparently 35c in there - but the core 6500 was recording intake of 56c in one of the cabs.....

I think DC's are about 25c

just a few stats from our DC, got so many probes, feeds and speeds can't see the wood for the trees sometimes!

The temperature monitors located in the racks range from 22 to 39*C. Most of them are at 35.

The Asic temperature in our Cisco 6509's are always in the low 80's high 70's... :(

24 racks.

The ambient room temperature is over 40'c as the only aircon unit in there only covers the door way so the windows have to be opened :confused:

MW

3 Aircon Units on cycle 2 on 1 of, turn the extra 1 on when gets warmer in the day.
Units are not in the correct places, also 3 rows of servers, 14 racks per row. Some very old gear too.

Output of units is 16°C.

Two Units;
Ambient Room Temperature varies from 17°C to 24°C.
Rack Temps are from 24°C to 26°C.

Three Units(On a hot day);
Ambient Room Temperature varies from 20°C to 28°C.
Rack Temps are from 26°C to 29°C.

what size AC units do you use in your DC is there a good rule of thumb? like 100k BTU per rack?

Regards Sam

well we use stulz chillers, they dont quote btu's but cooling v KW's of power, but we combine them with APC hot isle containment which is a pretty neat sealed enclosure concept, essentially the hotter the air being processed the more effcient the AC units can perform - apparently :p
