Your digital camera can,t see purple!

Came across this snippet of information today.

Your digital camera can't see the colour purple properly.

Dont believe me!, then take a picture of this and tell me what colour it is.

Blue, I hear you say!!!

Hmmm.

Amazing what you learn. I didn't know this either.

even the camera on my 6630 knows its purple although you need to give it a few seconds to figure it out

Phone cam doesn't like it. Mum's Nikon Coolpix shows it as purple though.

My Sony DSC-W12 thought it was blue, although a weird dark shade of it, strange.

So how the hell does purple fringing happen if it's not purple?

My Pana FZ20 sees it as a really deep blue, how interesting! Could it be anything to do with people having a TFT or a CRT screen to take the shots from? Does anyone here have both to do a comparison?

It's probably down to the white balance setting, setting my 350D to tungsten makes it go blue, set it to auto and its purple.
