Your dream holiday?

Nice! Enjoy it, fantastic place. Try and visit the main islands and not just get stuck on one.
We're staying on the Big Island, but might fly over to Kauai for a while.

Booked into the Mauna Lani Bay for most of the time, but got lots of plans including a 12 hour private active volcano tour, trip up to Mauna Kea summit, dolphin swim, helicopter flight, zip lining, ranch horse ride not to mention general sight seeing around waterfalls, beaches and stuff. We don't do the snorkel and scuba activities that are there. Plenty of time for relaxing and spa stuff as well. Can't wait!

Whilst It is probably fairly ok, I would personally still go to Thailand (outside of Bangkok or the south) or Malaysia for the same type of scenery but a safer environment.

FCO advisory here.

Ko Phi-Phi (Thailand) pics here.
Langkawi (Malaysia) pics here.

South Thailand is just as dangerous as Mindanao (South Ph). Anything past Hat Yai and I would be wary. The Philippines is perfectly safe except the island of Mindanao. All 3 are great to visit, Thailand and The Philippines are really chalk and cheese. The Philippines (especially Palawan) has yet to be invaded by tourists and backpackers on a large scale unlike Thailand.

Philippines is great, prefer it to the short time I spent in Thailand - really want to go back to Palawan. Managed to book a cheapo Air Asia flight for 15 (or was it 20?) quid later this year :D:D

Actually Palawan seemed to have a lot more local tourists than anything else which is nice, if you stick to tours / accommodation geared towards locals the prices are very reasonable too.

Phi Phi is way over-rated. Lots of building work and way too many tourists. It's alright. But people generally over-hype it.

I am sure most places would be nice if it wasn't for all them damn tourists :D.

I prefer Koh Samui but that has changed a lot in the last 6 years (Tescos in Thailand). Unfortunately the infrastructure hasn't been upgraded to match. Still nicer than Phuket or Pataya though IMO.

Maybe Palawan is worth a gander then.

Cheers

Fiji is pretty damned special. I booked an island hopping trip for 2 weeks, 6 islands all-inclusive with tours included. It was only about £500 but quite basic (accomodation and food) The tours were great - stuff like fishing with locals, cave trips, sunset hikes to peaks of islands, seeing local church ceremony, cava nights, overnight boat cruise, snorkelling, robinson crusoe island (with alcohol & bbq on board boat)...

I loved it

Italy: perfect blend of relaxation, beauty, culture and activity all in one.

I suggest staying here and renting a car to launch out to Florence/Pisa and then drive down and stay a week in Rome. The first week is relaxing (beautiful olive farm with amazing food and great staff/vibe) but has things to do reasonably nearby, the second week gives you all of Rome to explore, particularly brain-melting experiences like the Forum, Colloseum, and Pantheon, not to mention the wealth of culture woven into the fabric of the city. Just awesome.
