Your experiences of Vista?

I've been using Vista x64 HP since Jan,no problems to report and my 4GB system ram with 4GB ReadyBoost flash drive runs fine.

I've about 25 games installed so far,all running great.

Iam also having problems with connecting to my network. Just installed vista on a new build and can't access any shared files across the network. Typed in the correct workgroup name and change pc name.

Any ideas people? Ive set the network as private, which I think is right for a home network.

Ive managed to get my vista pc to see my laptop and I can transfer files. But on the laptop win xp I can see the vista pc under workgroup's but when I try to connect it asks me for a username and password. Ive not set any though, does anyone know if there is a default pw and un? Or how to turn the login off?

edit:can;t even see the workgroup on my laptop now

Mixed feelings from me.
Release day and up until the other week I have been pretty happy with it. Then it all started to get a bit slow and clunky. Disk access was near enough constant, media player took an absolute age to start playing music or videos and when they did eventually start it would be skipping all the way through.
Tried a defrag the other day to see if it would help but didn't make much difference at all. Also went through and removed/disabled an awful lot of stuff but no odds.
I formatted off and reinstalled. Bunged a 2GB Sandisk Extreme Card in the built in memory reader on my laptop (to get some readyboost action going) and its going swimmingly again now.

Ive been using vista since the betas and have had hardley any problems.
It even works fine on my new htpc even though the motherboard isnt working properly (the lan port and sound are dead in the water also the cpu is running at half speed)

Im just glad I bought an ATI card for my HTPC though because the nivida drivers are a pain and I just wish they would do an ATI and relese a set every month with more fixes then release a new set every other day with minor fixes.

Oh and by the way my xfi sound card is working how I want it too

I,ve been using vista ultimate 64bit for roughly 2 months now and haven't had any issues at all to do with software/drivers/games and I use a 8800gtx and xfi sound card which are meant to be evil on it :p
Its just as stable as xp pro sp2 for my pc, if not better :)

I'll upgrade to Vista at home once I have 4Gb + of RAM and they release service pack 1. At the moment I have a test PC at work and I'm not impressed, not enough incentive to upgrade even with Vista Ultimate. Especially as I don't use my PC at home as a media PC of any kind. A lot of the new exciting addons simply don't appeal to me, I've used Samurize so I don't really feel blown away by having system statistics on my desktop etc!

Perhaps in 6 months I'll have it in my house but for now XP will do me nicely.

Its all going pete tong with my vista.

I never had system stability issues with my hookie copy of xp but ever since i have been running a legit version of vista things have been going from bad to worse. Drivers. 32 bit was okay! All was supported, but when i decided to install the 64 bit version a couple of bits of hardware are not working properly. I am getting more and more BSOD. One of my HD has now started to fail (probably due to vista sending it to sleep all the time).

Joys

Im glad i didnt pay for this version of Vista (won it on the dev launch)

Well I was looking forward to getting Vista Ultimate 64bit installed, but so far I am really disapointed.

There are of course some nice stuff that I like - the new look, the lovely search feature and other small functions.

But overall Vista runs VERY bad on my machine. It takes AGES to boot into the login-screen - I am talking minutes... With XP that went A LOT faster.

Loading start applications is also VERY slow, from the second I click on my user account image to I can read new mails in Outlook 2007 it will take a minute or two, and getting the mails down is similar slow - it really feels like it's scanning and looking and indexing everything on my 7 harddisks..

Sometimes the side bar gets a little messed up - like it was a beta version from some odd skinning company.

Some so-called Vista compatible programs dies from time to time.

Etc.. etc.. I really do like it, but for day to day use it's not really working for me and I will soon install XP again.

The new Office on the other hand is really lovely and ill keep that.

A clean install of Vista might be good enough, but the second you start installing a lot of aaplications and stuff it does look it needs a huge update.

Oh well tried it.. looking forward to a better and more mature version.

Vista works fine, just take 5 minutes to look for the drivers you need for your hardware first, then install it.
In fact if you look for 6 minutes you can find the right software to full use of an X-fi sound car under vista.

Agreed, but on a side note, Vista is great to use, great fun especially first time using it.
