PS: GMAYFN - for Give Me All Your Files Now! :D:D:D

You are thinking in the wrong way of file types. Try thinking of
Vital
Security risk (ie personal details)
easy replaceable

You can then put folders below these but this way you know what to backup to dvd/cd/internet

c:/os (SSD raid0)
d:/cd thingy
e:/cache /tmp (ramdisk)
f:/program set 1 + profiles + program cache for set 2 (SSD raid0)
g:/program set 2 + program cache for set 1(SSD raid0)
z:/network fileserve + virtual images + unrar scratch zone (gigabit)

no it's not on the machine in the sig

Code:
Local Disk C:/ - 160 GB - OS, Installed Apps, Docs, pics, etc..
Media D:/ - 500 GB - TV Shows
Media E:/ - 640 GB - 1080p Movies
Media F:/ - 640 GB - 1080p Movies
Storage G:/ - 250 GB - Backups & RAW photos

I have 2 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F1's.
Disk 1
C:\ - OS and Apps
D:\ - Downloads, My Docs, Games / Game related installs
Disk 2
E:\ - Media (MP3's + AVI's etc)
S:\ - Swap file

...A 'c' drive plus 4 other local drives all backed up via WHS.
3 dvd drives
1 network drive
Stuff goes everywhere :)

C:\ Operating system and programs and games ect
D:\ My Documents and downloaded software ect
D:\ DVD RW
E:\ DVD RW

- 320GB C:\ = OS, apps, games. Will be an SSD once a 250GB one drops in price.

- 320GB M:\ = My Documents + Music + Downloaded software/drivers and disc images and regular backups of app dirs, settings etc from C.

- 320GB N:\ = External. Weekly backup sync of M:\

- 750GB V:\ = Movies and Home Videos.

- Z:\ = Virtual Clone Drive to load disc images.

Once I have an SSD for C I will use C's HDD as a means of backup for C.

A nice, organised system if I say so myself :p

C: Windows
D: Programs
E: Games
F: Movies
G: Websites
H: Astronomy
I: Downloads
J: EMail

Disk 2

K: Back up
L: Websites

Network drives

M: Websites
N: EMail

\\server\

Then have Music, Videos, Documents etc folders on the server.

Server is a Windows Home Server, with (currently) a 1tb and a 300gb drive - I'll of course be adding some more storage as need arises, I'm about 60% full at the moment.

Drive 1
--------
-: Debian Lenny
-: Ubuntu Live CD
C: Vista + essential apps.
D: Non-essential apps.
E: Movie / TV Show rips.
Y: Swapfile.
Z: DVD RW.

Drive 2 ( mostly offline )
--------
Backups

C:\ OS, Docs, Apps, Games
T:\ Websites, movie and images that have been edited, Programs I'm coding
W:\ Music, Movies, ISOs

C:\ -> Vista
D:\ -> Win7

E:\ -> Desktop, Downloads, Games, Music, Pictures, Programs, Videos, Virtual Machines

All currently on one 640GB drive, but I'm planning some upgrades. First stage is to scrap Vista and get a 60GB or 80GB SSD for Win7 and my most-used programs. Then I'll move all my videos and music onto something slow, quiet and massive like a 1.5TB Caviar Green, and keep the faster 640GB drive for games, VMs, etc.
