Why is it that when you recieve a newly boxed Graphics card that you feel like a child at Christmas... and if your order is late arriving you start dancing around the house stamping your feet while exhaustively looking out the window every 5 minutes.

The first computer I owned and built for myself was:

P3 400Mhz
64mb Ram
Turtle beech sound card
Geforce 2 MX440 (my friend had the GTS and I was so jealous) :D
HP 17" CRT
Windows 98 plus!

To put it bluntly, I was hooked up ;)

I only ever upgraded my system on the release of a new G card. It has always been the most important component of my PC build.

I was just sitting here thinking about how I used to think my Geforce 3 Ti 500 rocked, then the massive leap that was made when I installed the Ti4600, then the ATI 9700. It was the first time I could get a steady 120fps @ 1280 x 1024 while playing RTCW online.

The step up then moved to feature the 6800GT, that was incredible. Playing Doom 3 Quake 4 and Half life 2 was an exhilarating experience.

I have recently installed these games to play on my current rig enjoying for a second time...

G Cards I have owned:

Geforce 2 mx440
Geforce 3 TI 500
Geforce 4 TI4600
ATI 9700
Geforce 6800 GT
Geforce 7800GTX

Now:

Awaiting DX10 Geforce 8 or ATI's next installment... whichever seems to be better

Can't even remember the first system I had.....

3DFX Voodoo 3 3000 PCI
ATI Radeon 64Mb DDR VIVO (Radeon 7200)
ATI Radeon 9600Pro
nVidia GeForce 6800GT - RMA'ed
ATI Radeon X800XT
ATI Radeon X1900XT

Graphics cards ive owned over the years...

1mb Advanced Logic PCI
4mb ATI Rage +DVD PCI
8mb ATI Rage Pro AGP
16mb Voodoo 3 3000 AGP
32mb RIVA TNT2 M64 AGP
32mb RIVIA TNT2 Ultra Gamer AGP
32mb Geforce 3 Ti200 AGP
64mb Geforce 4 Ti4200 AGP
64mb Geforce 4 Ti4600 AGP
128mb ATi Radeon 9800Pro AGP
512mb ATi Radeon X1800XT PCI-E

Dont get excited as much anymore .... :(

3dfx Voodoo
ATI Rage 3D (still have this somewhere)
3dfx Voodoo 2
ATi Rage Fury MAXX (I think I had this only for half a day, lol)
3dfx Voodoo 3 3000
Nvidia Geforce 256 32mb
Nvidia GeForce2 MX 200 (for second system)
Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64mb
Nvidia Geforce 4 MX440 (for second system)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb (best card ever, imho)
ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512mb

Before the Voodoo, I recall the PowerVR thing the original Tomb Raider use to run on, but I hardly knew anything about 3d acceleration back then.

64Mb Geforce Go 5300 [laptop]

I don't remember every card I had, but I do remember some junk S3 Savage onboard video I once had to put up with, and I remember once upgrading to a Hercules 3D Prophet 4000XT which was a huge improvement over whatever I had at the time.

3dfx voodoo banshee was my first card,
then i believe it was called a Diamon Viper (although i could be wrong), basedon the TNT2 chipset...

then geforce2mx, geforce4mx, and now an fx5900xt. yes, i'm quite out of date methinks.

Rage 4MB tbh.

The first card I've owned in a rig I've built myself was and is a 7800GTX :p

I'm eagerly awaiting the G90, as I would love to own it for the novelty value of having a 9800GTX.

Sparkle! voodoo banshee
Sparkle! voodoo 3 16mb ?
Gainward gf3 64mb? hard to remember the make/model
Radeon 9700pro for 3 days then RMAed :)
Asus gf4 4200 overclocked something
ATi Radeon 9800XT
BFG 7800GTX
Next ??? Whatever DX10 card is the Pwner! in 2007

probably the first one I had that could do graphics was a hercules
(monochrome 720×348 pixels - whooo ! )
CGA was 'orrible, but can't remember if I actually possessed one.

I spent ages playing with programming the graphic chip on my VGA card.

To see Doom on a 3dfx Voodoo for the first time was amazing :)
- everything since has been same old...

currently have GS 7800+
.

I think it was:
- Something built in on an ICL PC, no idea what it was
- Diamond stealth 2Mb
- ATi Pro (had TV output for big screen gaming)
- added a competitor to the Voodoo1, it was pants
- replaced the 3d Card with a Voodoo1 (unbelievably better)
- replaced the V1 with a Voodoo2
- Voodoo3 3000
- GF2 MX
- GF2 Pro
- GF3
- GF4 4200 Ti
- 7900GTX

The game run the longest on those was Counterstrike, which made it all the way from my Voodoo2 to the GF4.
