My fabulous ship
Ok I had my first IT Interview last week, went well, will find the results friday :p but I was asked to write php code for an rss feed where by the feed code pull images from the php, this test was 45 minutes... I found this weird because:

1. I was meant to assume how the rss would find the images (there was no actual rss feed to look at)
2. There was no setup on the servers for me to upload images, nor was there images on the server to link to
3. There was no database to store information to save and not enough time to write script to store variables.

I found out the server didnt have proper setup rights when trying to upload images which wasnt nice, because it meant that my initial script didnt work, I wanted to upload the file, save the file location in a variable and send that to rss (never coded in rss but have looked at it).

anyway should have I had the right privalidges I would have been able to display the results, do you think that will look bad on me?

have you guys had to do a test while at the interview? also what was your first interview like? Im expectingn a fail tbh but its interview experience at the least

Passing the test isnt always the correct answer its how you did it.

yeah thats what they said, it was just to see my problem solving skills, but I think such a test could have done a bit more planning like given proper privalidges at the least and then maybe some rss code so I could see how it reads the images.

What company is this for and what position?

Burnsy

Its for a company called fotolibra dot com as their php developer

My first IT job interview, I thought went really well, but didn't get offered the job, but tbh I didn't really want it anyway as I was still at college and the workload would have been too much.

My second IT interview, was as a junior .NET developer. However before the interview began they were telling me about the company and I knew I wouldn't fit in, so I walked out of the interview.

My third IT interview was for where I work now. The first interview went really bad, I buckled under pressure and basically couldn't answer some of the very simple questions. About a week later, was asked if I could come back for a second interview, and was offered the job a week later.

Yep I had to do a test during my interview.

Had 3x PC's to repair/fault find, and a series of questions/scenarios about Hardware, operating systems etc which I had to respond to.

I scored 100% on both, have been doing the job 3 weeks and loving it :D

Good luck!

Had my first IT interview last Friday to be a Junior systems administrator

the technical test was pretty much questions like "if you installed a new disk drive and the power led is constantly lit whats wrong?"

Start next Monday
Guess ill be fine if I can learn something on
TCP/IP, HTML, XML, Access, .Net, Sendmail, Cintra, DIDOS Unix and VI ..eeek!
