Not exclusively games that came out this year, but those that you've discovered, or have just revisited again.

I've done so few this year I'm actually a little sad!

* A Plague Tale: Innocence - Actually finished this one toward the start of the year. Loved it, not into my stealth and never find sneaking around comfortable but found the surroundings, associated story and soundtrack of this one fantastic

* GTAV Main Campaign - I seldom play a game through twice, this has been the exception and I enjoyed it probably more than the first time. I honestly think this will be the series peak and I don't think it could have been any finer.

* Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice - Only got an hour and a bit into this with headphones but was blown away with how good the audio engineering was, really do need to pick it up and finish it.

* Halo: Combat Evolved - I went back to this as I've never been fully engaged with the Halo series, but have had the master chief collection forever. Enjoyed it, but I've hit the wall again not really wanting to start the second. Soundtrack in it's amazing though.

* Holiday Lemmings - Had a quick blast on this day before Christmas Eve to get the feels! Still love it.

* Arcade Paradise - As an arcade nut I couldn't resist trying this one for an afternoon. Spent more time washing other people's dirty laundry but it was great fun for the first hour or so, then became a bit obsessive compulsive routine wise and I lost interest.

What are yours?

Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is my GOTY, in fact Nintendo has provided many of my top gaming moments in 2023 with Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Pikmin 4 and Fire Emblem: Engage all honourable mentions.

Outwith those I enjoyed, or put significant hours into, Diablo 4, Starfield, Octopath Traveller 2, God of War: Ragnarok ( I played it right at the start of 2023 ) and Hogwarts Legacy.

There are others I’m still working my way through and enjoying: Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the Dead Space remake.

Didn’t finish Spider-man 2 - I’m sure I’ll come back and complete it but I think I’m burned out on Insomniac’s formula after the original Spider-man and Miles Morales.

And lastly, Final Fantasy 16 was my most disappointing game of 2023 ( at least of those I was looking forward to ). I literally had to force myself to complete it then promptly sold it !

My fav this year was RE4 overall.

Also thoroughly enjoyed Armored Core 6, Dead Space and Street Fighter 6.

EA WRC would've been up there had it not been such a technical mess.

Hogwarts Legacy I'm trying again now on PC, feels much better at a proper framerate but still a similar impression - it's a Hogwarts Tour with a mediocre game attached to it. Maybe the atmosphere will keep me going.

Haven't played Starfield, BG3 and Spiderman 2 but in no rush to play any of them TBH. FFXVI gets a complete skip.

Have played some other games but kept it to 2023 only.

Would have to be Zelda even though I haven’t finished it yet! Nintendo found some form in 2023. Dead Space was great. Loved AC Mirage and Spidey 2. Mario Wonder is up there. Been a decent year for games I think.

Dead sp@ce seems pricy for such an old game….albeit it’s had a remaster…

I go through stages of not playing games for ages, and then getting back in the groove. This year I decided to tick off more FromSoft games and completed Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring. I also managed to finish Tears of the Kingdom and played tons of Vampire Survivors, and some Mario Wonder. I'm a year late but Elden Ring was my game of the year.

Isn’t Elden a ring meant to be rock hard?

It’s a remake not a remaster- as in it’s been completely redone in every aspect. It’s brilliant but yeah if you played it on the 360 etc then I can see that.

Thanks for the correction…I’ve been getting a few EA play titles cheap on play store so guess I’m being spoilt…

Zelda: TOTK is probably my GOTY for consoles, played it through with the nephew and it was good fun.

Elden Ring (although I didn't play it on console, nor was it released this year) is still my GOTY from last year, will probably revisit it next year and the year after too

I can't say I had any particular standout this year, but ones I enjoyed, released 2023.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor
CyberPunk Phantom Liberty
Hogwarts Legacy (although I haven't got round to finishing yet)
Spiderman 2

If you've never played a Souls game it will be hard. I played Bloodborne, Demon Souls Remake, and Dark Souls Remastered previously, and by the time I started Elden after DS2/3, I found it to be one of the easier games!

Dead Space is definitely up there for me, as a huge fan of the original the remake did so much to remain true to it whilst not being a carbon copy with a fresh lick of paint. EA deserve credit for letting the dev team have the freedom to do it properly and get feedback from the fans, hopefully they've learned this is a winning strategy.

Viewfinder is also on my list, it flew somewhat under the radar when it was released and it deserves so much more attention, it's a great perspective-based puzzler. If you like things like Portal, The Witness, Superliminal etc I'd really recommend Viewfinder. Great soundtrack too.

Is the Deadspace remake the one on gamepass? I thought that was just the 360 version. Never played the original so will give it a go if so.

I don’t think 23 will go down as the best year in gaming history. I haven’t played anything on gamepass worth noting this year, did get myself a PS5 and a gaming PC this year though although seldom used the latter. I think the only 2023 release game I bought was MW3 of which I have really enjoyed zombies but barely played the other modes. I know they have tried something different with the campaign but it didn’t grab me.
I did however get through some PS classics this year, notably Days gone, both parts of TLOU and just started God of War this week all of which are superb.
