Bit of a weird thread, but was just interested how most of you have your layout arranged.

For example, I let my forearms rest on the table (with the elbows kinda on the edge) with the keyboard and mouse at a slight tilt towards my body. I've noticed this can be uncomfortable at times, and I've seen various pictures in which the gamers (generally "professional" ones) have the keyboard and mouse at the edge of the table.

I'm not sure what material the table top is; it's smooth, but my my forearms do tend do "stick" to it.

So just out of interest, what's your preferred arrangement for optimal performance and comfort?

Elbows/arms on armchair, with keyboard 1 to 2 inches from edge. Mouse is about 3 inches from edge so wrist is comfortable. Use a Boogie mat for comfort, plus great mouse control :)

My elbows rest on the edge of the arms of my chair. Mouse mat is to the right of me, with the mouse being moved predominantly over the left side / lower half of the mat.

Elbows floating, wrist of my right (mouse) hand rests on the edge of the table, left hand only where the front of the palm rests on the keyboard. Front of the keyboard is flush with the edge of the table, mousepad central between the edge and the monitor.

EDIT: Won't say its very comfortable but its how I ended up playing during my former competitive quake 3 ctf days as it gives the least impediment to my playing.

Lazily slumped into chair with most of my weight probably badly placed on my wrists on the edge of the desk. I have my mouse sensitivity incredibly high so I can do everything with just fingertip/wrist movements across two screens as well :P

Depends what I'm playing. If I'm using keyboard and mouse, my forearms are on the desk and elbows usual on the chair arms but the mouse and the keyboard are still pretty close the the edge of the desk.

If I'm playing a game with a controller I swing the arms on my chair right back so my arms are unencumbered by the chair arms then I set the chair to recline and slouch terribly. I love my chair :D

I do "The Back Shatterer".

Sitting on the edge of the sofa, horribly hunched over the laptop. Wrists wrest on the edge of the cooling bay and coffee table (keyboard and mouse hands, respectively).

Standing up after an extended sesh hurts.

That's probably one of the worst ways to have it tbh. As a trained health and safety adviser I feel I have to point out to you that you shouldn't be resting your arms on the table as you use the KB/M as it increases the chances of damaging the tendons over long periods.
Tilting the KB toward you will actually also increase likely hood of long term damage to the wrists...

As you move the mouse try to move it from the shoulder and elbow, and not by tilting your wrist left/right.
Again, it feels weird at first but it's better than the alternative...

This is much better as is forces you to keep your arms elevated. It takes some getting used to, however it has huge long term benefits and you'll be so much happier as you get older not suffering from aching arms/fingers and greatly reducing the chances of carpel tunnel syndrome and stiffening of the joints.

Hope this helps :)

Elbows on arms of the chair with the kb+mouse at the edge of the desk, the bottom of my palm that uses the mouse is right on the edge the other hand on the keyboard palm rest.

I couldn't really imagine sitting with them pushed back and my arms on the desk, i'd have to hunch forward and wouldn't be comfortable.

Boxing stance...

I have my feet up on a large L shaped desk and my chair on full recline - I couldn't be more laid back. My keyboard's on my lap and my mouse position is determined by the nearest part of the desk, which I have my forearm on. It's done me no harm at all in 15 plus years at all and as I don't play FPS games or anything similar I don't need "performance" at all. It's great for watching films, the games I play, writing and contemplation. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Uncomfortable yes, and you're going to wreck your neck and posture doing this. Arms and legs should be parallel to the floor, so you'll need to adjust your chair and table height. Also, keep the screen just below eye level to help stop you leaning forward. I sound like a H&S nut, but I work at a PC all day then play games a lot so I notice neck and shoulder pain a lot if I'm not sat right.
