Was thinking yesterday how mine graphics card tree evolved in all those years of pc gaming and would like to see other persons graphics card history so here it goes.

When i got the pc in 1996 i don't think there was any gpu in it then i asked my parents to buy me 3dfx VooDoo2 12mb Core: 90mhz memory 90 mhz Memory Bandwidth : 0.7 GB/sec i think it was something like that well it played quake 2 good :p

Then i got TNT i think It was tnt 2 im not really sure but i remember it had 64mb
was playing quake 3 on it diablo2

then i was some leap to get geforce 4 mx 440 i think i still have it for some reason 128 mb ram i think i was fascinated with graphics :D at that time

After that for some reason i switched to Ati Radeon x700 it lasted me long while really long and i was happy but then more demanding games came out and it was really struggling but i still waited for promised super kick ass card r600.....

Got 1650xt just to last me till r600(2900) for few months, ok card i guess played every game good + cheap

So R600(hd2900xt) came out everyone was so confused in the beginning was it better then gtx or not well eventually it was not better but i still bought it (expected more from that card ended up bit disappointed)

And Present today im changing hd2900xt to new 8800gts long since i did have nvidia hope they bring me good times and performance :p

GPU History tree :

Voodoo2
TNT2
Geforce mx440

770 4 gig
970 ref
980 ref
980ti ref

512kb on board Trident chip
4mb Righteous Orchid 3DFX (thanks Marshy, that's what it was caled) with a Matrox Mystique.
nVidia TNT
nVidia GeForce2 MX
nVidia GeForce Ti 4400
ATI 9800PRO
ATI 1950PRO (I could remember the others - this one I had to check Device Manager! Shows how important I think graphics and games are these days.)

I'm happy to say each upgrade was seriously worth it!

can't remember all my cards, but i know I had the following...

Righteous 3D orchid at some point in the 90's.

[more here that have been forgotten]

then I had some 64mb nvidia card.

then until 3months ago I had a ati radeon 9550

now I have an 8800gtx

S3 ViRGE GX2 - the '3D decelerater' I recall it being called... Or was that the VX?
Radeon 9250 - went 'poof'
Temporary integrated graphics (can't remember what exactly, something by Intel)
GeForce 6200 LE - sold
Integrated graphics - S3 UniChrome.
Radeon X1650 Pro

And I know my mum got me an 8800 GTS 320 cheap for Christmas.

At heart I'll always want S3 to release a decent mid-range card. :p

Only got into computing 3+ years ago. Scary to think how much i've spent on this kit! :(

9250se 64mb (poor)
9600se 128mb (poor)
9600le 128mb (poor)
9600xt 256mb (budget rocket - ran HL2 suprisingly well)
9800pro 128mb (fast but ran hot)
x850xt 256mb (nice card - clocked very well)
6800ultra 256mb (used heaps of power - my generic 450watt psu struggled to keep up)
7800gt 256mb (ace budget card - £50... no complaints!)
7950GX2 (probably the most fun i've had with a card - aircooling modded quite heavily)
7800gt (returned to it while i save for the 8800)
8800GTX (fastest card ever - took everything in it's stride... awesome)
2900XT 512mb (very fast but hate CCC and uses heaps of power.
2900XT 512mb x2  (as you could have guessed big performance but equally big leccy bills!)
2900pro flashed to XT (just used while i waited to sell and downgrade to the 3850)
HD3850pro 256mb (featherweight in cost, appearance and power usage but a true GPU gem! :))

gt
