Hi there.

I want to upgrade my current desktop, trouble is i'm a bit overwhelmed with all the proccessors, ram speeds etc, i built my system 4-5 years ago and haven't kept up to date since.

My current set up is amd athlon 4200 x2 with a gig of ram and windows xp me. and a geforce 8800gt, i currently use my system for games mostly and web browsing, and the occasional music download.

I basically need a new CPU, RAM, and new MOBO. and possibly a new graphics card, but i think the one i have is currently not too bad.i have no idea whether to go for a quad core, or stick with dual core, and what ram i would need for the latest games

my budget without a graphics card is upto 300 quid. Thanks for any help and advice you may be able to give

im assuming your HDDs and PSU are also 4-5 years old, so i included those into the spec, since a hdd from 4-5 years ago will be a major bottleneck compared to drives today.

sorry, i think i must have made a bit of exageration when i said 4-5 years old, i built it when the amd athlon 64 dual core 4200 came out, so possibly 4 years ago at a stretch.

my psu is a 550v and i have a maxtor 250gig HDD which isn't past the 100gig of usage yet
